Search Engine Sucks

by Hugo Munoz · in Site Feedback · 06/19/2011 (8:19 am) · 8 replies

Hey GG, since you guys migrate the old web site search engine to Google, searching on the forums is really difficult and useless 90% of the times, the specific product filtering is gone, and most of the time when you search something the result set does not make sense at all. Can you please kick the web dev's ass and tell them to index the contents properly and put back the individual product filters, that would be awesome.

From what I see, seems you guys outsourced the web site creation, if yes, please dont do that anymore most of the Web Dev companies do shitty work.

Thanks

1. We are aware of the lack luster search solution
2. We are working on both the site stability and the search
3. No, the site was created in-house

Hilarious and true! I've seen the search engine go through many changes over the last couple of years, and it is at its worse points so far in my opinion. It's gotten so bad that I'm glad I printed out so much of it in my yearly days. I can't even re-find resources to give the proper people credit, lame. But hopefully, GG, you guys are aware of this and planning to do something about this.

...And now reading the post ahead of me you are, lol...

Thanks Michael for your reply, Im sorry for my rude post, but I was really pissed off. I know you guys work very hard, and this is in fact a big issue, since all the "support" relies on the forums, this is critical specially for noob users, they will feel frustrated and give up about the technology very soon, Im telling this because I've seen that happen to 2 companies I was related in the past 3 months.

This will be fixed soon. I'll be making this a focus on our next big push.

so.... fixed soon? That was over a year ago. Still can't search worth anything. Ty for the link Alain, that helps a bit. At least some of those are working links. Would be nice if something other than promises from an actual GG employee would come. Did a fix ever happen? How could the search on the site be worse than it is? Its like a bad joke.

I search and instead of an actual list of linked results, say in resources, I get a list of results (half of which are blogs and not resources even under the resources tab) that, when clicked, take me to a resource list page (of course not the resource I clicked on, that would just be too easy) which may or may not contain the actual resource I was looking for. Talk about a non-intuitive system. As a first time user of T3d, this is the kind of thing that makes me want to drop the engine and go with something that doesn't make me waste time on a site that is so disorganized, and rather just go back to what I know.

Couldn't you guys use a Google custom search for the site? I've just been using Alain's link above for the last few years, couldn't it be built in?

Actually, I might recall that you've tried that before... Supposedly not...
