Chip in for OpenCollada development

by Russell Fincher · in Artist Corner · 06/03/2011 (10:45 am) · 9 replies

Hey all. I've been a strong supporter in my forum posts and blogs of the OpenCollada exporter, which (unlike other Collada exporters) supports both vertex coloring and User Defined properties. Well the OpenCollada guys, who do not charge for their exporter, need some cash for their Autodesk Development membership to help get the exporters out there for Max and Maya 2012. If you feel inclined, please donate:

I downloaded the source from the google code repos.
..there's a bit to adjust for a build on my machine, I'll see what I can do when time allows this week.

Russell, hopefully you're watching this thread...else I'll catch you on AIM next time.

I'm getting stuck compiling this 2012 exporter...on what seems to be something simple but still over my head.
I've tried using 2008 as 2010 fails to convert & load the projects but 2005 is the ideal version..etc.

- Perhaps you can talk Tom into compiling one for us ?
(It really should be childsplay for him.)

Read the "BUILD" file for more info.

I think that helping the OC people with donations is great but I'm not so sure it's going to culminate any time soon.

EB. I built the exporter for 2012 (x64) last week using VS2008 Express. I had to:

- create new configurations for Max_2012 (just copied the Max_2011 ones and modified the SDK environment variables)
- make a couple of small changes because of a function deprecated in the latest Max SDK

I've put a patch with all of my changes (including support for animated visibility) here.

Brilliant.
Thanks Chris, I'll give this a try soon.

Hey Chris, I have to ask if you wouldn't mind sharing that exporter.

Here's the story:
I have VS9 and 10 installed and no matter the version I set for the boost libs, I kept getting v100(vs10)..well I hacked around and built libs for vs9 and now I get 2 unresolved links deriving from those boost libs during the exporter compile.

Anyhow, would you share that exporter for 2012 ?

BAM!

I've also uploaded the 2011_x64 and 2011_win32 exporters (with visibility animation support) to that same very useful server!

I know what you mean about the boost (and other) lib setup. Took me awhile to get my environment right too.

Hey fellas, this thread sort of got derailed right out of the gate. Honestly, nice work getting these exporters updated and modified (I will be trying them out for sure), but it would have been more appropriate to start another thread, since the point of this one was to help these guys out.

actually, since we've bumped the thread several times by making posts, we've helped to keep it from falling straight to it's archival-death. ..nevertheless, I understand your point.

- Supporting them is a great idea.
