From GeoControl to T3D...bleh

by Muir Hamilton · in Torque 3D Professional · 04/17/2011 (4:40 pm) · 4 replies

Whenever I attempt to put my nice little island, generated in Geocontrol into torque, I get something that looks absolutely horrendous.

Normal map:

Results:

The render in GC looks great, so why does it fail so when it comes into t3d?

I'm 16, and I love doing game art. I prefer art to anything else, I don't have the patience for most coding, and I haven't bothered to learn much of 3DsX. I hope to have gamedev of some sort as a career in the future..

Read the docs on terrains and importing heightmaps.

You didn't show it, but is the heightmap a 16bit greyscale image?

IF you're importing that normal map as your heightmap, then that's wrong...

Dont use a normal map as the heightmap, also discard the normal map that geocontrol kicks out, its useless spread out over the whole terrain tbh.

Export a Tif heightmap from geocontrol and then convert to 16bit png
