IGDA upstate NY effort :: New Chapter intiative

by TheGasMan · in General Discussion · 04/11/2011 (12:36 pm) · 3 replies

I am seeking out game dev. hobby'ists, students, indies, & professionals that reside in upstate NY. All skill levels are welcomed.
My focus here is to start an IGDA chapter for collaboration and growth of upstate NY game developers' networking and prosperity.

This effort will be completely focused on developer-tiers controlled by your peers.
In other words: Initial plans include events and chats that will be based upon skilled-tier levels as to keep the focus and progress of the discussions and events as best viewed by those in the groups.
In more-other words: Professional developers need not shy away, but are highly welcomed..as the students & hobby'ers will have their own events and chats.

The above separation purposes are not meant to offend anyone but rather to help the sub-group members grow their skills in proper fashion & in the best form possible. Basically, all of our efforts will be best focused to the tasks at hand if they are of mutual respect to everyone within the sub-groups. Without sub-groups of developers of differing levels, a single group (read:chaos) will only hold that group back.

If you are interested in joining this effort and getting in at the ground floor, please contact me at:

- Thank you and I look forward to talking with anyone interested.
P.S. I had a discussion with Ryan Arndt, of the IGDA, earlier today.
I am excited to get this chapter up and running.

That's a great idea eb! Tiered events and talks would definitely help keep people's interest in attending meetings.

One of the things that really held back the Orlando chapter was that it was geared toward students most of the time, but it's hard to avoid that when the meetings were held at Full Sail. While that was great when I was a student, it was a little frustrating when I was not as those of us that had hit the professional level weren't finding the meetings as useful for the time they took. When the meetings were finally moved off campus and the talks made more generalized professional attendance bounced back some.

I hope you get a lot of response for the chapter, good luck!

Thanks Scott.
I'd write out alot more ideas in simple chat form but people here tend to take my words in much different ways than they are meant.

Are you still part of a chapter ?

Not currently, I haven't had a chance to check out the chapter here in Vegas since I got out here.
