Hi Charlie,

Thanks! Yes, the templates in the packages were carefully designed, documented and tested over 12 months. I'm glad it shows :)

Thank you again,

Galen

I've had a chance to go through these documents and find them of the highest quality I have ever seen, and being that they are specific to a game development company is perfect.

If you're an indie developer and you're looking to provide some sort of structure and focus to your studio or even looking to get some funding for one of your games, then these documents will serve you well.

They are well documented and come with a short example for each section, perfect for those of us who do not understand how to create one of these things.

If you have been looking for a set of documents to help streamline your development process as well as keep you focused on your business model, then get them, you wont be disappointed.

A must for any indie developer.

Thank you for your kind words!

I created the templates originally because I needed a better way to document game projects, then I need to create business and operational plans. When I started making the move to indie game development I bought a small library of books, read hundreds of online forum posts, articles, etc... looking at how to make my game. I suspect that's pretty much what most people do (at least those who don't enrole in college or just post a volunteer MMO project teaming request looking for help with everything :) ).

What struck me was everywhere I looked they referenced a game design document, then some explained at a very high level what might go in one, then unimanously pronounced that a standard GDD was not possible. Now, this flies in the face of my professional experience, but I thought hey... this is game design, the folks here know their industry better than me.

Well, 3 years, several personal and contract projects later (including a stint as CIO of a game startup in California), and I was still without a good GDD I liked to use. I kept getting lost with the monolithic GDDs I had found (some came from books I bought, some online). So, I started (side note... by day I'm a mild mannered senior IT architect and director, so completely unstructured doesn't work for me ... yes, I admit it, I'm no artist, but the good news is the UN has droped their "crimes against visual arts and humanity" case when I promised not to do my own game art from now on :D ).

As I made the templates, I did two things.. organized them into related fields, and documented them so I know what's suppose to go in the blank :). Frankly there is a LOT of details in any game, or any aspect of a game. When I finished, I looked that the collection and said "others may be able to use these" and ... I had my promise to the UN to deliver on, so I make the package available for sale :)

[edit] forgot to mention, I hope the templates help. Looking forward to seeing your games!

Sincerely,

Galen

Yes the templates have certainly helped, I spent the last few days putting all my notes for my first game into the templates.

My first game is going to be a basic game in comparison to what gets released today, but its one I want to play so either way I win :)

Thanks again.
