Sweet Parallax Terrain Materials Pack?

by Devin Passage · in Torque 3D Professional · 12/01/2010 (8:32 pm) · 31 replies

Anybody care to make a lil pack of parallax-ready texturemaps for terrain materials? I need sand, forest, rocks, volcanic rocks, etc. Would anybody be interested in helping to get something like this together?

I'm currently working on a pack that includes alot of terrain materials, setup with parallax maps. Real Life currently getting in the way a little bit, but hopefully shouldnt be too long... before christmas I hope anyhow

Currently I have planned to include a load of ambient shapes for environments to go with it, along with some sample maps.
Overall, each terrain texture will include Diffuse/Detail/Normal/Parallax/Spec(for other engines, and dts use...). around 100 base terrain textures,500 images total.

Fingers crossed though for christmas... texture types are currently categorized as:
Grass
Natural (Leaves & Moss etc)
Rock/Cliff
Stone
Gravel/Rubble
Ice/Snow
Sand/Desert
Cracked_Earth
Path/Cobble/Manmade

well, a EA version was mentioned a while back, and currently its something I might consider considering my day job's gone mental at the moment because of the weather.

If I do an Early Adopter version of it, and basically arrange with Jon to open up a repo, so updates can be downloaded as and when untill theres a finalized version, the input would probably help out too with texture variations and model ideas aswell.

I'll get back to you on that when im on my PC and talk with jon about it

Thanks guys!

Jon's cracked the whip on me, I'm going to have this weekend mostly free so will be putting stuff together to try and get this out there in some kind of EA form.

I'll keep ya updated with any news on here.
I'll also sort out some new pics, their all older ones i already had uploaded, not at home at the moment to do any more though.

ya those rock texture looks real good i tryed Parallax on some textures that i did for rocks but they did not look like that. :P i took all those out already and just keep them with Diffuse/Detail/Normal they look good just like that. my snow ones look basicly the same as you have there.

i like to mabe get my hands on this pack with everyone else its worth the rocky textures and maybe the grass depending how that looks.

Yeah is there any images of the grass, just to see what it looks like?

Righty, I've uploaded some new pictures, just the texture thrown onto the default terrain. standard sun settings. its bit of a git showing a textures 3d effect with a flat screenshot lol...

anyway, commencing picture spam of some other grass and cliff/rock textures. (I know I have to adjust the tiling on some)

For a 'finished product' look, the grass textures would probably need groundcover made for the specific textures that ties in with the colouring of them properly. majority of the parallax detailing is to give them an 'unmowed' look.

Anyway, it is still verymuch a work in progress, I filtered through the textures I have here and have set aside alot of them that im not happy with to redo them due to either the tiling, or the normal/parallax maps not being sharp enough and melting once parallax is applied.

Great looking stuff... my attempts at parallax work haven't even been close to that. Especially impressed by the third shot from the last in the second post, seriously gives the impression of geometry detail. Would definitely consider a purchase.
