something all T3D owners are thinking about now

by deepscratch · in Torque 3D Professional · 11/14/2010 (5:46 pm) · 17 replies

well, we all got licences, pro or binary, doesnt matter, and with everything "hanging in the air" like this,
what about getting the latest dev build,

1.1 final would/will only be out in a few months anyway, so just the latest dev build,
call it T3D1.1beta3.1, for pro and binary, just in case things go, well, bad.

I know the pacific demo is Tom's, so we know thats not up to "you", whoever that is now, who can say 'yes',
so please can we get something like this?
it would make a lot of us feel, maybe easier is the word?

community? whats your thoughts on this?

Well,it will be good if TP collects the current state of T3D 1.1 beta3,include all the bug fixes and updates and release a product named 1.1 beta4 for example.

even if they do its not going to be for a wile they still want to know if there is a buyer as that be one selling point for the buyer i would think.

I guess it really depends on whether work was completed, priorities change, work and plans change. Luma Arcade have removed the Car racing kit from their site, so no idea what will materialise from this. Legions Overdrive is now in the works with IA releasing the licence - so if buyers do not present themselves for Torque, it will either head down this route, or another. Lots of speculation, thoughts and concerns which are all up in the air at the moment - we have the engines, but there is always that feeling of running on empty when you don't have support to back you up once it's gone unless you have a team that can work it all out or deep pockets to snap up a developer that is good enough to know the engine inside and out - this is why the community need a place to help each other if things don't go well. Being a businessman I even thought about approaching some investors to approach IA take up a majority share of Torque whilst the rest was raised by the community to have a share in the engines, but I think its probably too far gone for that now and there is always the off chance that in the current economy you'd not get enough people to cover the cost - things take time and I'm sure IA have more contacts and plans already in place.

Even if we don't have the latest build, I think it could be useful to have the bug tracking list starting at Beta 3.

From that, we know what the community have to fix until a new buyer is coming. In all case, everybody will be happy as bug will be fixed.

What's your thought?

Thanks,

I agree with Deepscratch here, getting the latest build up and out would be a really good move. Save a ton of redundant problembashing for people out there, and maybe even keep ++ people/teams sticking around no matter what happens.

Caution - random thoughts ahead:

Considering T3D's recent work was apparently focused on bringing the Mac up to speed, I'd expect that Win 1.1 Beta 3 is the latest build.

I can't really comment about what I saw most recently in the repo but Steve is pretty much spot on in his random thoughts about T3D.

I must admit I agree with you all,
however if your like me

and haven't had a chance to keep on top of the bugs that have been fixed by the comunity and posted in the forums, then a semi-final build or even a patch from a comunity member with the changes would be good thing.
I'm buggered if I'm jumping ship, I love Torque even though I've done naff all with it, I still plan on making at least 1 game before I pop my clogs - (was before I hit 40, that was last month ;-( dam my day job!!)
oops off topic.

I agree, or maybe we as the community should do the same thing they are doing for TX and have a CEV (Community Edition Version). That way we'll push out the future updates, add features, and etc. Just in case there is a new buyer or not. We'll still be able to upgrade and enhance the engine.
Even though I'm not the best programmer I can do the best I can. I'm quite sure other would be willing to contribute also. We can maybe set monthly updates similar to what UDK is doing, just an idea!

I was glancing at the Beta 3 bugs, and I have not seen all of these in my recent game build yet. It does worry me if I am stuck at beta 3, and that's the last build. Hopefully my game can be completed and shipped with beta 3 if necessary, and with a few community contributed tweaks. I may have to hire more contractors to help with any engine bug fixes if they rear their heads. A costly option.

These things will typically rely on the outcome of the sale of Torque technology.

IA is running on a skeleton crew and working as hard as they can to get all of this resolved. The Torque 3D development team are in limbo, so the likelihood of a release is slim-to-none. Additionally, management wouldn't want to hurt the chances of a sale going through.

The only thing we, as a community can do, is show our support and do our best to continue development with Torque. Abandoning the mammoth efforts of 10 years of development because of this wee hiccup is unthinkable.

Indeed, T3D has such promise it'd be pretty silly to 'jump ship' simply because of the current situation.

That said though, I would love to have a current 'known issues' list with as detailed a bug report we can get for each. Especially if those Bugs have already been squashed and simply need to be worked into the main T3D build.

Hmmmm I find myself checking the site almost hourly for some kind of news. Trying not to, but this affects me, my team, my game, our community. Sure many others feel this way too. Hard not to keep checking for some news. :(

Few days late but I would imagine that the Torque dev team and associates, etc have been locked out of their accounts and SVN repo until any decision is reached on the sale of Torque.

It's standard practice to make sure any disgruntled employees don't post the contents or their passwords online so I doubt they could release any newer version anyway.

Lets hope the sale goes through quickly and they're back up and running soon

Eric posted a comment that suggested that potential buyers are reviewing the company and its assets now. So that is welcome news.

Torque would be a good investment for M$. There is a good deal of support for MS products (360, Windows, Windows 7 Phone), support for MAC (can't beat them, under cut them), and support for iPhones (see previous). Of course, Google has tons of cash....

Sadly I am in a limbo point - do I buy a plugin now before I am ready for it (I am in the hobby design/learning phase), or hope that if Torque has to close this site down before finding a buyer/dissipating that I can find the add-ons elsewhere (The Game Creators?? Steam??). Such a bother.
