Cursor Woes

So the cursor is starting to bother me. I originally was setting things up with software cursors, however the software cursors lag terribly, and just feel very unresponsive. The software cursors perform fine on the main menu, but once you get into a mission they just lag horribly. While on the other hand the hardware cursor responds perfectly.
So I decided to attempt custom hardware cursors via this resource (http://www.torquepowered.com/community/resources/view/15453). I got it to work fine, however the cursor flickers and if you move the mouse fast enough every few frames it will show the original windows cursor for about one frame.
So my question is, has anyone been successful at getting better performance from software cursors? Or has anyone gotten custom hardware cursors to work in any way without the flickering?
