Is the TGE RTS Genre Kit a working game I can build on

by Draken Knight · in RTS Starter Kit · 10/01/2010 (11:54 pm) · 4 replies

I just want to know because I want to get a jump start and start a website with games and am thinking this kit will help me. The thing is that I am alone in this and need something like the rts kit where I can take what is there i.e. a playable version and max it out to a real game. I just do not want a bunch of code that I can put together later.

Can anyone answer this?

Thanks

The RTS Starter Kit has a lot of good features but at the same time it would be impossible for the developers to create a kit that has every single bell & whistle on it. One key feature that is missing is pathfinding. I am not quite sure what you meant by your last sentence on the paragraph but I will say that if you want to create a 'real game', you're going to have to do quite a bit of scripting and some source code (C++) additions.

Well thanks for the reply, I just wanted to know if it was like the adventure kit and comes with a playable demo that’s all. You know something you can build on and see it as it will be when you use it. Basically something you can not only read but touch and see it in working action.

Ben - yes, it does have a demo of sorts. And if you pick up the kit, you should also find the free world domination mod thats floating around. It adds even more features -

I worked on a fantasy RTS for ~9 months last year using this kit - so its definitely possible.

Thanks, obviously making games is complicated and time consuming. I am my own designer, developer, and programmer and so on. That is why I am interested in this to give me a leg up.
