Looking for an RPG tutorial

by David Cox · in General Discussion · 09/01/2010 (2:37 am) · 7 replies

Hi, I'm in need of a tutorial to help me in making an RPG for a school project. To be more specific as in what kind of RPG I'm looking for something like the Final Fantasy series and if possible in 3D but 2D will be okay as well. I currently have access to TGB, TGE, and the previous build of Torque X as the new one isn't available to CC members yet. I would use the demo but need to be able to use it for more than 30 days. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Most likely you will not find a full blown RPG tutorial. This would require an extensive tutorial, and if it was available would probably have a cost to it.

When I was learning, I used to go to http://www.makingindiegames.com/TorqueGameBuilderTutorials.html

Good luck on your project though!

There is a lot to RPG games. I do not how to post links to other forum messages but look at the info in this thread

In the forum Game Design and Creative Issues,
look for a posting by Mel L.
I plan on making an MMORPG.

She is given a lot of advice by fellow members!

BTW, it is not yet complete, but I've written an .h file utilizing VC Express 2005 for character development.
For a small fee, I could sell it to you!

Out of curiosity, what kind of school project leaves you adrift in search of your own tutorials? Shouldn't the relevant tools and techniques be covered by your instructor? At the very least, can't he or she at least suggest some relevant study material for you?

Yeah, what Shermam Pendley said.
I remember when I was going to school, they books, classboards and such to help them teach!

I am sure you have a limited amount of time so I would stick to using TGB for any project you are doing. In that case, buy the Adventure Kit and then add your RPG elements from there. (the pack offers a Zelda-esque system so shouldn't be too hard to add from there.)

I second the Adventure Kit suggestion. It's just an inventory+stat system away from being an RPG.
