The site wish list

Derek suggested making a thread for this, so here it goes.
We know the site has some bugs and we know search is terrible. They also know, and are working on it. So let's list what we want improved, added or changed other than that!
My personal wishes:
What else do you lot want? Add to this, as they'll be watching this thread :)

My personal wishes:
- Private messages - hide our e-mail and let the site mail us instead.
- Categories for the resource section - one per engine would be fine, and optional private posts for engine changes so only engine owners can access it.
- A repository for resources would also be nice, especially for larger modifications which constantly change. Also good practice for all of those people out there who never heard of source control :)
What else do you lot want? Add to this, as they'll be watching this thread :)

Though, personally, I never subscribe to email alerts and just check stuff manually.
PLUS: a resources "updated/new post" alert system, because these things get updated and ported to newer engine versions whilst being lost under a ton of newer resources.

Equally a "follow user" setting to alert to posts/blogs/resources from a list of users.Though, personally, I never subscribe to email alerts and just check stuff manually.

@Steve: great idea for the 'follow user' idea. Didn't even think of that, but could definitely be useful.

This kind of threads usually work for catharsys but rarely end up into something concrete in part because is not clearly organized.
Personally, Ive started threads, writen posts, voted for others, and whatnot, just to see N-months later, the same wave of requests coming again.
My vote then, goes to organize this, using Google Moderator (I think GG uses google apps for mail, so its a matter of enabling the app), or just a new account at Uservoice.

A good thing to have would be something like google moderator or uservoice for this. This kind of threads usually work for catharsys but rarely end up into something concrete in part because is not clearly organized.

Make a group, then pick a label for it (company, team, group, class, mob etc.). Individual titles for members of the group and delegation of administration.

My biggest annoyance with the forum is that after posting something the forum considers the thread to have unread updates. I really think it should ignore our own posts, unless other people posted in it. The e-mail updates are able to keep quiet when I post a thread I watch, so it would be great if the forum index agreed what's old news to me.

Not sure whether to consider this a bug or stick it on the wish list, so a septim flip later I'm back here:My biggest annoyance with the forum is that after posting something the forum considers the thread to have unread updates. Forums: Comment box only appears on the last page.

Suggestion for profiles: Maybe have some indication of who's an author of a product sold on the site. Custom icons would be a bonus.Forums: Comment box only appears on the last page.

Bookmarks for resources, similar to watched threads. All I'd really want is my bookmarked resources displayed at the front of the list. I'm voting for better resource organization in general, but this one thing would really help me out.

Let users create a group and have a task list that can be checked off and commented on

Option to let users delete a blog entry

I realize that this was stated in the opening post of this thread, but I feel that Personal Messages would be far more useful than half of the things listed by everyone and their omission would bypass the usefulness of almost everything listed here.

I still think that under My Products it should list the date files were last updated so we can look to see if we already have the newest version.

My top three:- Resource tagging/categorisation for easier searching
- Jump to most recent (or first unread, ideally) comment in forums/blogs
- Bring back repository access? :D

1. The jobs pane on the front page that used to list the newest job postings as they were added to the jobs forum. I think this would seriously improve the number of job postings that go up on the site.
1.b. The newest .plan pane on the front page that used to be under the jobs pane. This really let you stay in touch with your fellow indies as we all simultaneously stomped through the indie game dev trenches.
2. The snapshot of the day. These were more important then user .plans and even employee .plans. They let you know you weren't alone as a struggling indie. They let you feel like you were part of something bigger.
3. The irc javascript link on the front page. This let you immediately jump in and talk to your fellow indies. The ones that were actually doing this stuff full time or hardcore. Perspective torque buyers jump in and immediately know that there is real support for Torque and a real group of people doing what they want to do.
I know I was long winded but in the spirit of GG getting back to the community focused, community driven, community LOVED company it was (and maybe still is) I think these are extremely important. More important then search updates.

My suggestions are aimed at GG coming back the way it used to be, a site focused at community and indie coherence. I think these are the most valuable website changes GG can make if they want to get back to the glory they once had.1. I wish a second "Mark forums read" button was at the bottom of the page, too.

It's really hard to follow and know what I have read or not in the forums. Wouldn't it be way better to use a standard Forum engine?

I use the "view unread" function, but filters to ignore certain forums would make it more useful.

Resources especially tend to grow "organically" with patches in the comments section that general users are unaware of.

Adding blogs and resources to some sort "view unread comments" system might be a nice idea.Resources especially tend to grow "organically" with patches in the comments section that general users are unaware of.

It took you 5 minutes to write that post? No wonder you're having issues.
