dae2dts.exe & unmessdts.exe with bats and doscommand
by TheGasMan · in Torque 3D Professional · 07/08/2010 (4:33 am) · 5 replies
simple situation here;
1. I made a maxscript panel to generate a batch file for unmessdts.exe ..and then run the unmessdts.bat from a maxscript doscommand function, it works fine/great.
2. If I use the dae2dts.exe in the same manner..I get an error:

However, if I run the .bat by double click, it works fine.
'Anyone have any clue what is going on ?

2. look in your T3D downloads. You will see the dae2dts converter.
DAE is automatically converted to DTS by the engine if not converted by use of this tool. DAE can be forced into use by the engine if you choose to do such a thing but I do not recommend it.
//Edit:
Also, DTS files compiled from DAE files are 20%-40% larger on the average.
Example: a highpoly teapot exported to..
DTS: 118KB
DTS compiled from DAE: 200KB
I have around a dozen other reasons to avoid collada but that is not for this conversation because Collada does have benefits that DTS exporters do not provide. They are good for their current respective uses.

It's a buggy app, the previous version works fine (from 1.0.1), but the latest version is the one in 1.1b1 which is busticated - see relevant bug threads!

Also I'm curious why you are converting to DTS, I thought we were trying to make sure DAE was the end all format for 1.1 and encouraging people not to use DTS
