The Differences between tge and t3d

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forums, but I have had torque3d for several months now. The documentation is a little on the lean side, in that there isn't really a complete reference. I am a little frustrated. How much difference is there between torque3d and torque game engine from a programming standpoint. Will the books already written work with torque 3d?

For the most part, yes.

So the game programmers guide to torque will work with Torque3d?

Game programmers guide to torque uses tge. For the most part, T3D is the same as TGE except T3D has more objects such as more guis, materials, and shaders.
However, you probably should still do the book examples using TGE.

There will be some differences, but if you're learning to use torque, you should definitely get it.Game programmers guide to torque uses tge. For the most part, T3D is the same as TGE except T3D has more objects such as more guis, materials, and shaders.

Thanks Sean, I was just wondering if any of it is compatible at all. I tried looking and wasn't sure if the garage games quit selling the original engine. I am going into this kinda blind, so I hope the book is of some use. That's the other thing I don't like, the factor that there is no object reference. I just want to know if the torque script will work the same. The rest I can kinda wing.

So fingers crossed ;)

There's draft version of an object reference available and 1.1 is supposed to be shipping with a full blown object reference for torquescript. So fingers crossed ;)

Do you know where that can be found at? Any references I have found have been blank.

The very first post in this thread has a link to the draft scripting for T3D. It's the only one i know of that I have seen so far.http://www.torquepowered.com/community/forums/viewthread/111979/

Also, the online documentation has a scripting section as well but it is incomplete.

Thanks Chris. I am looking at it, and it's a pretty good start.

There's going to be a much much more detailed and complete version of the reference when 1.1 is released (hopefully).
