Torque X 3.1.5 Status Update (7-2-2010)

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to give you a quick status update on Torque X. Its been mentioned in a couple of places by Matt but Torque X was not ready to full release today. There are still a lot of issues plaguing it that simply make it unusable so we decided to keep on it until they were resolved.

Because there are still some outstanding things we decided we wanted to give it another round of testing. That means a Beta 2 will be going out, most likely next week with a release hopefully soon after. To remind everyone, the goal for 3.1.5 is not perfection but a usable engine.

When I first looked at the state of Torque X I knew we weren't going to fix it overnight. We have a long road ahead of us before we have something that makes development easier, faster and fun but we are making progress and have some future plans that will greatly help that I will share soon.

Lastly I want to say thanks to some people. Sickhead has been doing an amazing job fixing things and addressing areas that haven't been touched in years. Matt is doing a great job managing the tech, communicating with the community and putting the final touches on Torque X. And finally the community, you guys have been a resilient bunch that has really bonded together and the amount of good spirits and general helpfulness in this community is truly uplifting. I want to specifically call out Pino, Henry and Duncan for their contributions, without their dedication I don't know what the state of Torque X would be.

Thank you for the status update. I agree that getting the engine to functional status is the critical objective. Feature creep with broken leaves you with broken and confused.

One way to leverage the community long term, is to write the editor in C# with the engine and provide the source to owners.

@Kyle, I was looking at something like that, using the TX engine to create the editor. I don't know if I could integrate it with the windows forms for the interface part.
