What does alxSourceMatrixF() do?

I'm starting in the audio stuff I understand play and stop but what does the MatrixF do?

I could be wrong here because I haven't looked at it but I am guessing that this has something to do with the matrix used by the object (source object) emitting the sound for spacial sound.
