Animating trees setup to use with windemitter

Somewhere around here I have read a reply on a thread about how to set up vertex colors on trees so they can be animated with the windemitter but I can't find it anymore. Does somebody know which thread it was? Or can anybody tell me how to set up the tree with the colors? As far as I can recall it you need to color the branches red and the leaves green in.
