plus, like you stated will mean more business for your company.
as of a possible AFX binary price, I agree with you, it will be insane to compare the ratio discount from T3D pro to binary, as of right now if we would of compare it it will be 1/10 of the actual price, so if current afx price is : 200, so 1/10 of that will be = 20.
altho it does not sound bad at all. :-)
anyways back to reality and business sence.
maybe half price for binary would not be that bad at all to put it as and example, and hopefully the community can post their opinions here and share their thoughts.
but I guess it will all boils down to what will be able to do binary afx owners.
since there will be no source mods, will the binary owners be also able to modify spells, create its own, change graphic looking of the effects via scripting?
or will only be stucked with the current stock spells examples from AFX? without being able create new, modify existing etc....
I think the cummunity will need to look at this factors as well as your company and from there take an approach of the price for the binary.
since I think noone (binary owners) will like to be stucked with the same effects from stock on all games.
other than that, afx is a must on T3D, without it it just kind abe dull on games, IMO.
but I guess it will be a great win win situation for both, afx company and binary users.
now assuming all goes right and you see it will be a great potential for you to create AFX for binary holders, how complicated will it be, in the terms of a release time frame, couple of months, of is this some sort of a long period to achieve?
Looking forward for a binary AFX release.
regards

It will be great news if this would be possible, for binary owners to be able to get access to AFX aswell, please dont leave us out of the loop.plus, like you stated will mean more business for your company.

You have a buyer right here. I wouldn't mind going with your regular price at all. The chances that I upgrade from binary to full T3D in the future are high, so having AFX source available would be a benefit in the long run anyway. Then again, that is more up to you.

Sign me up as another buyer, got a new project in the pipeline- we're looking at the 3D isometric genre kit and need AFX, but we don't need really anything else so we just popped for the binary version for the time being- kind of betting on you guys doing this.

ok, so i know this is off the beaten track a little but... How would the licensing work, i'm confused at the best of times with the mumbo jumbo used by most EULAs especially around here where none of the EULAs are remotely consistant, especially now that we pro owners are no longer allowed to have other people work on our projects unless they own T3D binary.
Not that this is an issue for me as yet, since my only non solo projects are also non AFX, but how does it work, can i redistribute binary to a binary owner who doesnt yet own the potential T3D AFX Binary, and just as a side issue how does that workin TGEA too where distribution of a tools build is allowed.

Id also be concerned about the new workload, it is true that the source owners can fix and update and create any issues that arise, binary owners would be dependent on Faust Logic unless you allow source owners to distribute binaries, but then that is almost direct competition (see issues raided below). That having been said i think that binary users are far more likely to buy small themed spell pack addons than many of teh source users so an increase in 'engine' sales may well be a leader into spallpack sales, theres probably thousand of kids out there who would buy warcraft lookalike spells (BTW if you ever release a NWN clone spellpack i'll be first in line)ok, so i know this is off the beaten track a little but... Perhaps Faust Logic could work with the Torque team to get a plug-in system working in T3D so that the whole community could benefit. Then anyone who makes plug-ins would be unfettered by the requirement to have that dll entry linked into the T3D executable. Helping to set the standard could put you guys in a nice position....

Yeah, looking at this proposal it appears that Faust Logic would have to distribute a modified T3D Individual (new name for Binary) executable along with their library. Unless T3D implements some sort of dynamic plug-in system that I'm not aware of. The legal implications are more complex than they might at first seem.Perhaps Faust Logic could work with the Torque team to get a plug-in system working in T3D so that the whole community could benefit. On the surface it would appear that such a release would be a win-win situation with a lower cost entry point for users and a likely increase in sales of AFX.
It all boils down to what the increased support overhead might be. I personally find T3D to be somewhat buggy and I'm not sure whether the lack of source leads to increased support difficulty or more frequent maintenance upgrades.
Also note that a large part of AFX is content, so, while a binary version of AFX for T3D is likely to be discounted, it won't be discounted as deeply as T3D Binary is compared to T3D Pro.
I encourage any current or potential AFX users with an opinion on this to add comments to this thread. Any input will be useful.
