DIFF to OBJ or whatever

by Brian Mitchell · in Artist Corner · 01/12/2010 (11:10 am) · 9 replies

Greetings all GG peoples!

I currently have a ton of old DIFF objects that where made in Quark. So the dilemma is that Quark doesn't export it's models in a format I can use in other 3D packages like Maya or 3ds Max. Or perhaps I don't see a plug-in for Quark that does this; or a program that can import a DIFF, or a plug-in for Maya or 3ds Max that can import a DIFF.

Any suggestions or known solutions are much appreciated.

You would need the .map file that goes with that dif to export it to a different format.

Thanks for reply Mike. Yeah I'm seeing I can open the .map file in constructor now to export out into light wave then to object format. Unless there is another program or plug-in that can open .map files? Really wished Constructor exported out to object format so I wouldn't have to jump through these hoops, but can't really argue with free.

Thanks again for reply(s)

I don't know if this will help you at all but there is a .map to 3ds utility called map23ds. Look for it here: torque.abigholeintheweb.com/public_system/artists/exporter_related/max/

Oh I forgot to mention, the easiest way to use it is to drag your .map file and drop it on map23ds.exe. This here is the original post:

You can import your .map into Deled and export it as an obj or collada. Deled is going opensource soon and will be free for everyone.

Would be nice if Constructor will be updated to export also .DAE (beside .OBJ)... But not too confident it will be... I have to say I prefer a lot BSP editors then 3D apps like 3DSMAX or MAYA for buildings but this is probably because I'm still a nob with 3DSMAX...
