[T2Di 1.3 - Resolved] - T2Di will not start - Intel GMA issue
by StuporMundi · in iTorque 2D · 01/06/2010 (11:47 am) · 21 replies
Hi
I just downloaded the new Torque 2D for iphone and put it on my Laptop. This laptop has windows 7 on it. iTGB 1.2 was working fine. Now when I try to start this new version I just get a beep and nothing happens, no GUI appears - nothing although when I start TGB 1.74 this starts alright..
Any ideas how to resolve this. I looked through the docs but they're all to do with Xcode and what not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

D3D" display device not found!
"OpenGL" display device not found!
Canvas creation failed. Shutting down.
These things are there as TGB works as did iTGB. I copied the Torque2 iphone folder to my C: drive should it be put somewhere specific? Do I need to set up a path to D3D or Open GL?

I'm wondering if this has something to do with previous builds being installed. Do you have a previous version of iTGB installed? (1.2 or T2Di 1.3 Beta)
If so, delete those. If you have already deleted them, make sure you have cleared out the config files installed by previous builds. These are typically found in:
C:\Documents and Settings\USER_NAME\Application Data\GarageGames (That's an XP OS). I'll check Vista when I get to work to see if it saves config files to another directory. This was an issue with previous builds being released, and older versions' config files messing with the system.

I too am unable to replicate this on Vista 64 or XP. When I get to the office I will try on a Windows 7 as well.I'm wondering if this has something to do with previous builds being installed. Do you have a previous version of iTGB installed? (1.2 or T2Di 1.3 Beta)

Can't find a config file that points the Torque. To be honest I have had Windows 7 for 5 hours so I am unfamiliar with the system, probably the config file is somewhere althoough a search didn't turn it up.

I did have a previous version of iTGB installed, I did delete it before putting Torque 2D for iPhone on. On Windows 7 there doesn't seem to be this file structure of Documents anyway I Settings. Anyway I loaded onto my wife's Windows 7 PC to test and this definitely did not have a iTGB on it and still it would not run. Can't find a config file that points the Torque. C:\Users\Mich\AppData\Roaming\GarageGames
In that folder, data for TGB games and the Builder itself are store.

So I just checked Vista. The location of the files I was referring to are something similar to this:C:\Users\Mich\AppData\Roaming\GarageGames
In that folder, data for TGB games and the Builder itself are store.

What exactly am I looking to alter - after the garagegames folder there are two build folders - TB and 2dphone build.
am I looking for commonConfig config or commonPrefs.
I'm pretty new to this and have no idea really.
I appreciate all your help.

Delete both folders, completely.
#8
The folder c:/users/johndonov is now marked as read only which I don't recall it being so yesterday, but when I change it, it resets.
Anyway deleting these two folders has no effect on starting Torque 2D for the iphone it only stops TGB 1.74 from working.

When I delete both folders, all that happens is the console log in the 2d iphone folder states that there is now a missing file and still doesn't work, and in addition TGB stops working completely as well .The folder c:/users/johndonov is now marked as read only which I don't recall it being so yesterday, but when I change it, it resets.

Does the program need DirectX installed, I'm assuming that windows 7 installed this and that I'd get a warning from the program if it was needed.

One thing I overlooked to mention (could be relevant) is that my copy of Windows 7 is the home edition.

@John - For Windows you should always have DirectX installed to run a game engine app. Just to be safe, check your current version. Make sure you are updated to the latest version

For most cards that should not be a problem, but an Intel card and Vista/Win7, ensure you are on current driver and that you have at least a GMA950. GMA900 and ealier have no OpenGL support on Vista+ because they don't fullfill the requirement for WDDM drivers, as such these cards can't use it.
As you have a mac around anyway (requirement to do any simulator / device tests) you would have to switch to mac should you have such an old box with Vista / win7
As far as I see, the T2Di website does not reflect this correctly in the requirements at the time.

T2Di 1.3 does not use / support DX anymore as per the release announcement (the dx8 folder is also gone from the libs), as such having or not having it shouldn't have an impact. For most cards that should not be a problem, but an Intel card and Vista/Win7, ensure you are on current driver and that you have at least a GMA950. My laptop has an Intel GMA 965. It's not clear whether windows 7 comes with openGL. I downloaded a couple of versions but they had no effect and I'm wondering whether they have to be put in a specific folder.
When I ran the .exe it just put everything on the desktop.
I only have windows 7 home premium and I'm wondering whether the professional would run the software. It doesn't seem clear whether it is the hardware or the software which is causing this.

Its the job of the graphics manufacturer offering it in the WDDM drivers. XPDM drivers could not offer it.
Thats why GMA 900 fail.
When installing drivers, ensure you really install them (ie get them from intel.com or your mainboard manufacturer), do NOT use the driver updates from windows update on GPU. They are not the same as the downloads from the manufacturers and could explain your issue (actually independent on the developer, ati / nvidia drivers are just as cut on windows update)

Is it worth posting the console.log in its entirety here?

"OpenGL" display device not found!
as no OpenGL means no rendering at all

Ok thanks Marc. I'm trying to trace the relevant drivers down with the manufacturer and I'll see how far I get.

There are many known issues with openGL and drivers from windows update for intel and the built in intel download tool.
Here is some more information :
Link to Intel Forums
Also, by that logic, make your way over to this link here and download the newest drivers for your chipset from intel directly.
I hope this helps, as i use windows 7 with no problems!
