Art Pack PreSale Questionair

by Kevin Mitchell · in General Discussion · 01/01/2010 (11:52 am) · 7 replies

So I've spent time creating a Art Pack But a few questions before I attempt posting the sale info and all out display. Any input would be helpful.

I have a small questionair I'm wondering if some people can help make this whole process smoother. Some questions might be aimed at EB and some other people that's published some things with paypal and electronic down loads.

1. What preferred File format would you rather have:

A) *.max B) *.obj C) Collada

2. What are some file medians i can use to host my art pack? Dose GG have a hosting site where they take a portion of the sales?

3. How would I be able to setup a PayPal transaction process. Is there a startup cost?

4. Any tips that you can add for my first ever sale?

PS: My art pack is a creation pack for characters that's why I ask what format would be appropriate.

Thanks again everyone.

1. Personally, I'd rather Collada. Most character model packs I've seen sold on TurboSquid will have several formats, however so you may consider exporting as all three just for flexibility and to reach a wider customer base.

2. I'm not too sure on this one, but you should be able to use the usual Megaupload, Rapidshare, Mediafire with an account and have a password on the zip/rar that you give out in an e-mail when someone has purchased the pack. Another option is using TurboSquid, a site specifically made for selling 3D models and just give the links to your models here.

3. I believe you just create a business account on Paypal and they take a certain percentage of each sale. As for setting up a buy page, I've never done it before, but there appears to be a decent amount of tutorials for business accounts on their page:

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/xcl/web-accept-to-sc-button-outside

4. Have screenshots and videos of the models in action for sure. Also have the details of each model (vertex/face count, are they rigged?, are they animated and if so, what animations?) People are always looking for well priced, good character models so if they like the screenshots and video and you have an easy way to pay/download them, then I'm sure you will get sales.

#1 C if it has animation and B if its just a object. C for both is fine to but .obj i never had any problems with in other programs.

#2 daz3d.com, turbosquid.com, and GG site which you need to talk with GG for that. all of them take a % of the sale. there are allot more then just the 3 listed just they are more populor sites or sites i like to go to.

#3 just read what nathan said.

#4 nope cant help ya there.

hmm a characters pack sounds nice can't wait to see it.

If you want a bigger cut of the proceeds, setting up your own PayPal gateway might be a better option. There are semi-automated options for any content management system where you create a product, have PayPal process payment and enablea download link/activate the download in an account (some people buy one thing and never return, so an account-free option is nice).

You get 50% on a good day, but less hassle, from using a service. If you're up to a little reading and figuring out PayPal's merchant accounts, you keep 96%+ :)

Hi,

Well this seems like a very interesting pack, which I'll keep my eye on. But for your questions:

1) collada seems to be a good options, but I would also suggest for the people not interested in mucking around with exporting a few main combonations to dts.

2) well at turbo squid you are likely to get a bigger amount of people viewing it, but putting it on a site with less packs, garagegames or dexsoft ( I think they host packs to sell ) will get more of us buying them

3) don't know

4) lots of images, ingame shots. Also details like polycount, and all the files included (if you go to frogames.net, look at what they have for there css:warriors pack, and set it out like that.)
