by Patrick Force · in Torque X 3D · 12/31/2009 (7:22 pm) · 14 replies

I just purchased TX3D and am seriusly wondering how to get at the World Editor???
Is It through the TXBuilder??

I am total lost..not one word about:"world editor" in any of the documenation??

Am I missing something obvious..I had the CC version for free..but that was just 3D BUILDER...I hope!!
Terrain

Reason I bught the product-

Torque X 3D's terrain system is integrated with the runtime with editing support from the <b>World Editor.</b>

The <b>World Editor</b> is fully integrated with the Torque runtime and provides full access to all Torque subsystems

You can create material definitions, assign components, and specify object types all from the <b>World Editor.<b>

Am I crazy??

Yes. At least, I think so.

You have Torque 3D but you bought Torque X 3D because it had editing support from a world builder? Torque 3D is the flagship C++ engine, TX3D is a C# port of TGEA with quite a few missing features. I'm not quite sure what you are looking for or if you know what you are looking for. I'd start by asking yourself what you want and what language you want to do it in.

The terrain engine is integrated, but there is no runtime editing support built in. That's Torque 3D / TGEA / TGE. The 3D Builder you got with CC is the only builder there is at this time. The guys are moving torwards a unified tools system so that the Torque 3D editors can be used for Torque X as well, but that's a way off. For now we have a buggy world editor that edits an xml file (if you can get it to run, many, including me, can't).

The World Editor is the 3D editor that is used to place game objects within the 3D world. The terrain editing portion is coming very quickly. The long work around is to use Torque 3D's terrain editor or L3DT terrain editor. But the good news is that Torque 3D's world editor is becoming the new Torque X editor along with all of it's terrain editing greatness.

well, I guess, what your your really saying is that..
I was duped...

there is something called truth in advertising..

I have waiting to drop that $250.00 for a year thinking that 3.01 was a different product...the TX3D product page is MISLEADING at best...

That the product that was advertised is not that product that was delivered...(No Refund Policy)..are you trying to scare people?? at this point..consumer protection in the country overides a companys right to take money on deception..

Either it is one or the other, you can't sell a new car and say well, the stereo is being built and delivered later...just live with it..
-----------------------------------------------------------
statements I have a big problem with.

Your license to Torque X 3D provides you with a 100% complete feature set:

1).Torque X 3D's terrain system is integrated with the runtime with editing support from the World Editor. NO IT IS NOT!!
2).World Editor: •Light instancing, placement, and manipulation | NO
3).World Editor: •Sound and video | NO!
4).World Editor: •Vast terrains | NO!

AND from the Install Read Me..
This package includes 5 starter kits. WHERE? ARE THEY SECRET??
I have two starter templates and 1 example..fps..

Does garage games conssult legal advice on there product claims/advertising.

I am not a lawyer..The products works..just stop misleading people!!!

I purchased the binary of T3D because I knew that source and tools were cross compatable with TX3D ..with some tweaks..so I am not too worried..or surprised..

I could never run the demo of TX3D... the CC version/or without..so it it is kinda my fault..(or is it?)

AND...the free version on the CC website is still 3.0 and not compatable with Dream Build Play Requirement of 3.1..

It will all work out in the End, I full faith in the team!!!
but...please hurry...

and change your product page to actully reflect the product..or, someone will legally force you to..

------------------------------------------

and what was I hoping for..
2 game devolpment enviroments..both with some kind of GUI.

One porting to XBox 360/XBLA through the communiy indie marketplace-TX3D
One Porting to the Internet Browser supporting the Same assets and game logic and class type data structure: T3D

Thats what I bought, Thats what I got..

I am just like a kid, that sees a new toy advertised on TV..
WOW, gotta have that..
get it home, open the box..and..crap..its just a regular toy...

there is no world editor...ther is just Torque builder..a level designer
:-(

I have the same problem and bought TorqueX 3D for the same reason.

World Editor

Torque X 3D's World Editor provides an entire suite of WYSIWYG tools for designing and editing a game or simulated environment. The World Editor is fully integrated with the Torque runtime and provides full access to all Torque subsystems allowing for:

•Object placement and manipulation
•Property inspection and editing
•Shader definition and application
•Light instancing, placement, and manipulation
•Seamlessly connected indoor and outdoor scenes
•Asset importation
•Sound and video
•Performance profiling
•No compile time
•Flexible LOD system
•Vast terrains

This does not exist as John stated in an earlier post. I am a programmer and have a level designer who has experience in using the Unreal Editor. I mainly bought this product for him to build the level while I handle all the coding. Only problem is there is no level editor.

Can you give us some kind of timeframe on when this editor will be available? I have already been denied a refund so at this point I'm just waiting on you.

From John's blog:

3.2.2 April 2010 - Focus: Editor Upgrades
New 3D level editor
New 2D level editor
3D Terrain editing

By the way, progress on the new 3D editor is coming along significantly faster than projected. I really don't think you'll need to wait April to get it. The 2D editor, however, probably will come closer to the original target date.

That's awesome news John :)

Speaking of updates, how far away (roughly) is the Jan update?

Most likely the end of January, about 2-3 weeks. The finishing touches are being completed this week, followed by a couple weeks of internal/external testing. If everything passes as expected, release should hit right as the month closes.
