Unable to export from 3Ds Max

by Kartik · in Artist Corner · 12/29/2009 (7:52 am) · 6 replies

Hello,

I'm using the DTS exported utility in Max and unable to export even a single mesh. Everytime I try to export a shape, it gives an error as "Found two meshes named 'Box' of size 2". This error comes up even in a new Max file having only one box shape.. & so I'm unable to get around this.

Can someone here please help. I'm using TGEA.

Thanks

This is also followed by an error that says "Unexpected material on node 'Cylinder01'. All I'm trying to do is export a simple box shape that has a normal BMP texture on it...

Problem#1: Open your schematic and take a screenshot. Post it here. I'd rather help you learn than just fix your problem.

Problem#2: the dts exporter ONLY exports diffuse texture information. Please remove/clean/reset/uncheck that BMP portion of the material.

GG doesn't host images, so you'll need to upload it to Flickr or something. But you can include it in a message posted here. Click the "MarkupLite is enabled" link at the top of the message box for instructions for adding an image to your message, as well as adding links, formatting text, etc.

Sorry to bring up such an old post but I have the same issue but with 3DS Max 2012 using Gas Man's DTS Exporter.

This would be my Schematic View

Then the Informational Error I get after exporting the DTS file from Max

The character has no Bones or Animations (yet) I just want to get it into Torque 3D and see the size and the look.

Thanks,

Eric

Nevermind everyone I found out why this happens. And since the answer was somewhat half answered here, I will explain to those that need this to understand how and why this happens. Like the above message stated it found 2 meshes with the same name.

In 3DS Max I had 2 meshes 1 named GogetaSSJ4Jacket and the other GogetaSSJ4Jacket2. When using the DTS Export tool from GasMan (Big Thanks GasMas!) the Export was striping the 2 from the second mesh making it GogetaSSJ4Jacket which is why I got the message that I had two meshes named the same.

The solution was to name one of the meshes GogetaSSJ4Jack so I could keep the other just the way it was. Once I created a bounds box then froze it, then went to the DTS Export Utility tool in 3DS Max selected my whole objected, Then pressed the "Renumber Selections" button and gave it a 2, then "Embeded the Shape" (which gives it a little green box below the object inside the bounds box, then Exported the "Whole Shape" object to DTS everything went just the way Garage Games said it would.

Below is the proof "in game" and I am very happy at the results, not the most impressive model and yes it is static but I am just starting out. Next is Bones and Animation oh boy first time for everything....
