Does Constructor actually work in OSX

by Gibby · in Technical Issues · 12/22/2009 (6:07 pm) · 10 replies

hmmm well after spending nearly half a day trying to export interiors out of Constructor, I'm at a loss. Anytime I try to export as a DIF it just crashes. No errors on console.log, nothing, just crashes. Is anyone out there actually using this program on the Mac side? If so how did you get it to work?

FWIW my system is a Mac Pro with 2gig RAM, Leopard...
..I can't even compile the crate prefab, even after a clean install...

Crashing on export in Leopard - sounds like the bug that was fixed by the 1.0.4 patch that's mentioned on the Constructor TDN page.

Should have known, 1.0.3 is what one can download from one's 'account', thanks again GG...

oh, what changed between 1.0.4 and 1.0.6 that OSX users don't have?

Okay so I have downloaded 1.0.4, applied what was called a 'patch', and now I get:

Error exporting to detail level 0. No Brushes are defined. A brush is required when exporting to DIF.

The manual is a Wiki that is not yet written [neither TGEA nor T3D]. If anyone could suggest a means of exporting geometry out of this program in OSX, I'd be most grateful...

Hmmm, well, I just turned off my Mac, powered up an WinXP system [2gig Athlon] installed 1.0.3 applied the 'patch' and it just didn't work.

Would it be asking too much for an installer for the most recent PC version. I'm used to waiting a year for Mac updates, but if I could get it to work on a PC that would be great.

Edit: wrong post

hmmm bizarre, I re-installed 1.0.3 on my PC, reloaded and re-exported the exact same file a second time, without changing anything, and it works in both TGE & TGEA. Strange. Never did get the updates working on either platform though, anyone have 1.0.4 working on OSX?

I do - that's why I suggested the update to begin with. ;-)

The most common source of problems with the patch, as far as I've seen, is unzipping it in the wrong location, so that files end up in the wrong place instead of replacing the older versions.

Sherman:

Thanks I did 1.0.4 to work after wiping my previous versions and merging them, third time's a charm I guess. Wondering if a DMG or ZIP of either one of our setups could be posted for other OSX folks...

I don't think it'd be a good idea to distribute anything without GG's explicit go-ahead. For that matter, I've volunteered on more than one occasion to help update the Mac version to 1.0.6. So far, GG hasn't taken me up on the offer.
