I decided to use the Forest Editor to scatter boulders. Is rampant coolness....

My main suggestion would be to keep it to smaller elements... no bigger than a tree... and for things your gonna have 1000s of instances of.
Still... abuse it all you like and see what works for you.

but I was thinking basically the same thing that you said.
Collision is less than optimal with my rocks - some you can walk on, some you can walk through - I'm thinking about re-exporting to collada since I'm currently using DTS rocks.

It makes for good ground clutter
