T3D - Waterblock>Lava

I'm trying to figure out how to make a waterblock look like lava. Is that the best way to create a lava effect? I thought I would just be able to add a texture but it doesn't look like it. Any good ideas?

I also would like it to cause damage to the player or AI should they step into it.

Thanks!

The waterblock could potentially be used to make something that resembles lava, but it would probably be difficult to make it look thick like lava. It also depends on what sort of lava your after. If it's lava like you get from a volcano where you have layers of varying temperature with semi-hardened bits on top and being able to see the more liquid lava flowing beneath it, you may be better off creating a plane/quad, and texturing it with a few layers of animated textures. If your wanting something like you get in a smelting facility where you have a pool of super-heated material, the waterblock would definitely work but you would also have to alter the shader so the surface glows some, and possibly add a heat haze effect above it (so the players don't confuse it for a pool of gellatine :P).
