M.A.C.K. & F.A.C.K. on T3D...
by Quinton Delpeche · in General Add-On Discussion · 10/26/2009 (3:56 pm) · 42 replies
I have done some preliminary searches on both these forums and the Brokeass Games forums for any information regarding this.
I don't have a problem attempting the port myself it if hasn't been done ... but if somebody has done this or if the official product supports it then I would just like some conformation.
I have checked the product pages and my download pages and there doesn't seem to be a specific download for M.A.C.K. or F.A.C.K.
Thanks again for any further information or assistance you can provide.

No, we had no luck at all. We are using the MACK character for now, but the clothing is very poorly done, doesn't look good with the animations and we do not have an artist who can do character clothing. We will worry about that later on but at least the characters work with the animations. We were able to get clothing and texture swapping to work..but of course, we need clothing. ;) This and the difficulty in converting bvh to dsq has been our biggest issues so far.

LOL, this will be the second thing I have purchased to use in Torque that is not "out of the box" ready. (Face Palm - Doh!)
So now I have another kit that I can't use beyond what I can extract from the already provided samples. The Two things that caught my attention was 'Torque Ready-Out of the box' and the wonderful GUI for model adaptations and creations. I don't mind doing some tweeks and changes but again- jumping through hoops to make something that was advertised as -Torque ready- kinda, well it *torques me off!*
I have invested several hundreds of dollars in this game engine and add-ons not huge amounts (but still!) I came from Dark Basic and the Game Creators because I thought the Torque Community and Game Engine had better promise.
I think it still does but have been very disappointed so far!
Well lessons learned I guess. I hope there is an update soon and I can move along making games again!
Cheers!

Joe, I think you have legit/legal grounds for a refund.

On the other hand, I do think the Torque community is great. But there are a few companies that made things previously that have stopped updating...although they say they are updating..very confusing. And there seem to be a lack of tools to replace the ones that disappeared. Other than that, I find people here very helpful. Many of the ads here are 3rd party sales and I will be a bit more careful in the future.

Joe, you are not the only one. We have had very bad luck with 3rd party items lately although not all of it was Torque specific. I am beginning to think it is a general problem rather than just with Torque creators. What really bothers me is that I DO look on the forums and elsewhere and I read people saying how wonderful something is and how great the service and yet we spend hundreds of dollars on stuff we partially receive, promises made that are never fulfilled. And these are the same people whom others rave about! It is very frustrating. On the other hand, I do think the Torque community is great. 'DISCLAIMER AND WARRANTY: BrokeAss Games provides the products related to this agreement "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. You assume total responsibility and risk for your use of this product.'
So I did accept it- again based upon the discussions I read and what appears to be the high regard and reputations of the folks associated with B.A.G. on the forums.
I can only hope they will update the pack and provide free upgrades to those of us who purchased their products.
If not- Lesson learned.
Having worked in the SW industry, the one thing I do know is good customer service and relations will carry you a long way - SW bugs and all. But - Get a bad reputation and provide little or no support and your working for the pointy haired boss selling your wares in Elbonia!
@ Teila- I agree. Being more cautious is the way I am going to be in the future. I am neither a very good modeler nor graphics guy but I do try. I am going to have to spend time now on making my own models and then bringing them into the game myself.
I really did not want to spend another year learning new tools. But it seems that if you want to get the job done you have to do it your self or find others and form a team. Unfortunately I am small time beginner moving over to a new engine. I have lots of skills as a programmer and can deal with that end of it. It's the important part of the game (graphics-models-textures) that I am weakest on.
I really do believe that the majority of folks on this forum are very good members of the community and will provide help. I am confident that the folks at B.A.G will do the right thing and step up and provide the product they have advertised and promised.
So moving on - lesson learned - let's make some games and have fun!
Cheers,
Joe

Unfortunatley because they are supplied by a Third Party, we can't provide our Ports.
I am hoping that some of the Third Parties will sort these out and hopefully with the new management here at Garage Games, we will start getting prolonged support for these products.
I eventually gave up waiting for this port (which is sad as I own both the M.A.C.K. and the F.A.C.K.) and initially tried to do it myself ... when that failed I merely went to other models in my arsenal and forged ahead with those.
Good luck with your projects.

@Teila and @Joe: Yeah ... unfortuantely there are afew issues like this lurking ... most of us try to port the stuff to the new Engines and we mostly get it right.Unfortunatley because they are supplied by a Third Party, we can't provide our Ports.

So the only thing that I have available besides what I can extract out of the T3D platform are these purchased model packs.
ROFL at me!
Thanks and appriciate the support!
Good luck to you too!
Cheers!

Agreed- LOL the problem is I have an arsonal of Direct-X models but so far have not discovered a way to bring them into this game platform effectively. So the only thing that I have available besides what I can extract out of the T3D platform are these purchased model packs.

You did not get what you thought you were receiving and that has nothing to do with the "as is" clause.
An "As is" clause is if the product meets it's advertised featureset that the creators are not legally bound to do anything more for you. ..but first it MUST meet it's advertised set of claims.
On the other hand, I'm sure the BAG guys are working on it. These posts are more in generic form of consumer rights(US based).

Joe, with your base logic; I could sell you a car over the web and tell you it is made of gold. Then I could mail you a toothpick, so long as you agreed to something similar. You did not get what you thought you were receiving and that has nothing to do with the "as is" clause.

We actually were able to port over the MACK characters but I am not happy with the quality of the meshes. The actual character is very nice. Animations are pretty good. But the clothing meshes are bad. I wonder if that is a result of the port? Not sure...doesn't make sense in my limited view of all this. ;) But maybe that is the problem. I do hope the BAG guys are working on but have doubts since they do not say anything on their forums or here. Keeping my fingers crossed though. If they would at least finish the Ecstasy Motion pack it would allow someone on our team to put animations on a non-Mack character.

I do have 4 base models that I can use; I have managed to get them into my game so that in itself is a part of the product I wanted. I just can't get access to that groovy interface and change them up. So there is some 50/50 functionality there!
As far as logic goes, trust me I do know the difference between a Gold Car and a toothpick! That did make me laugh though and agree with you even more so!-LOL.
I do appreciate your responses and support.
@Teila
I understand your issues. I am wondering just how many in the community have issues in common here with B.A.G. I am starting to discover a lot of members talking about these packs and asking for the updates.
I wonder if we need to contact GG and see if they can offer up some help here.
One thing is that these "packs" where sold here through their site and although GG may have no direct responsibility with regard to the "third party" vendors, the poor business practices and lack of support or communication reflect unfavorably on the game platform and GG itself.
I would think they should remove them as a sponsored vendor until they can return in good status. I know if I had a bad product on the shelves of my store I would remove it until it was improved. Just a thought!
@B.A.G.
You guys can step in here anytime now and help us out with some communication and status! That would be wonderful!
Cheers all!

@ G.A.S You do have a point- I was not disputing the idea of requesting a refund. But if they refuse and cite this EULA reference, well I have been in the SW industry long enough to know this is just "general" enough to make it more $$$ to pursue legally then its worth. Would be different if it was in the thousands of dollars for sure!I do have 4 base models that I can use; I have managed to get them into my game so that in itself is a part of the product I wanted. I am assuming you are using T3d. The pack lists TGA and TGEA as compatible, not T3d. I knew this before we purchased them but we have a good programmer on the team who was able to get everything to work, including the ability to change them. No groovy interface though! :) My issues are with the quality of some aspects, not so much with the inability to use them.

-> What are the key features and "looks/appearance/styling/quality" that you devs are seeking ?
The base of this would start with:
T3D compatibility, 1 male model and 1 female model, some customizable clothing, GUI to fiddle with, will work with Torque animation files.
Give me your ideas of what you want to see and for what price.
Trying to use a scale of 1 to 10 along with your suggested features would be great.
[ Source files would be Max2010/2011 or 2012 ]
Let's see if we can work something out..

I can make a customizable character package for you guys/gals. In fact, I planned to make one sometime this year.-> What are the key features and "looks/appearance/styling/quality" that you devs are seeking ?

Now that would be awesome!
Let me think a bit. Might as well put together a design document and see what we can come up with. I am willing to pay a fair price for sure.
I certainly would like the basics you mentioned for sure.
Cheers!

Quote:Will the animation pack work on Gideon?Yes. The Kork orc animations from the animation megapack work with Gideon.
Quote:Can the animations pack be used with other character models?Yes. They have to have a skeleton that matches the animations. That means the character must have a skeleton that matches "bvh/poser" naming, or matches guideon/kork aka "Biped" naming).
Quote:LOL, this will be the second thing I have purchased to use in Torque that is not "out of the box" ready. (Face Palm - Doh!)MACK and FACK are both 100% drag-and-drop for TGE and TGEA 1.71. Either pack will merge with those stock engines flawlessly. Once we release this port for T3D, the same will be true for it, but not until then...

E.B., We will be hiring someone to create some character items, including meshes and animations in the future but will use the new MACK pack for the time being. I will post in the jobs section when we are ready and we will pay a fair price. I work with Teila, by the way.I am very much looking forward to the new MACK pack! :)

@Dennis, thx for the heads-up. I'll keep an eye out for the post.
