ETA on T3D release?

by Joel Schilling · in Arcane FX (Public) · 10/21/2009 (11:16 am) · 18 replies

I'm interested in getting AFX to be able to add selectrons to my NPC's. Every thread that search turns up that has something to do with the release of AFX for T3D seems to be in private forums.

Can someone please give me a rough estimate for when this will be available for T3D?

We should be starting closed beta for AFX2-for-T3D within one or two weeks. Once we're happy with the stability, we are planning to make pre-orders available which will also grant access to open beta versions.

Here is the planned purchase/upgrade matrix of product costs for AFX 2.0.

The T3D column of prices reflects a reduced cost for the pre-order beta-test period.

The AFX2-for-TGE and AFX2-for-TGEA products should be available for purchase very soon. If you're waiting for the T3D version, note that there's no cost penalty for first purchasing AFX2-for-TGE or AFX2-for-TGEA and later cross-grading to AFX2-for-T3D when it becomes available.

* -- If you have AFX1-for-TGEA, there's no way to upgrade to AFX2-for-TGE by itself, but an upgrade to AFX2-for-TGEA, also includes AFX2-for-TGE at no additional cost.

At GarageGames request, we simplified the product-line and the prices listed above represent a product with CoreTech+SpellPack1+SpellPack2 all combined into one piece. It's sort of a mega combo-pack but currently there are no foreseeable plans to sell CoreTech, SpellPack1, or SpellPack2 separately. (This does not rule out the possibility of future add-on packs.)

A license for AFX2-for-TGEA will now also include a license for AFX2-for-TGE at no additional cost, and likewise, a license for AFX2-for-T3D will include licenses for AFX2-for-TGEA and AFX2-for-TGE.

A final bit that isn't fully determined yet is that some users who bought AFX1 ComboPack or SpellPack1 in the past few months will get some form of discount coupon that can be applied to an upgrade purchase.

Note: all of these prices are tentative and may change for final release.

Hey Jeff - what if I'm a sucker and bought both TGE and TGEA versions because I love AFX so much? And yes, I do love AFX so much I bought both versions ;) hahaha, just curious

Can't wait to see your latest work

A release of AFX2 for T3D is all ready but the final logistics of product release that requires coordination with GarageGames is going slow... should be ready real soon, though the holidays are also slowing things even more. There should be an AFX2 for T3D any day now.

Jeff, considering that T3D is evolving with every release..will you be supporting the newer engine versions over the next year or 2 ? ..or perhaps just v1.0 or v1.1 ?
- I have to ask as I am unfamiliar with your plans or level of support.

Thanks Jeff and I am looking forward to this package.

@ eb -- We'll try to update AFX to match every major T3D release, but only final releases, not alpha or beta releases. The amount of lag time generally depends on the complexity of changes to T3D and to what degree they overlap with AFX customizations.

I fully understand and thanks for the attention to detail.

OK, AFX2 for T3D is finally shipping!

Notes:

This release is compatible with T3D 1.0.1 and only the Windows version is currently available.

The release is labeled as Beta mainly because some of the primary example spells still lack T3D lighting effects and the MacOS version is not included yet.

The MacOS version is nearly finished and just requires the completion of some custom shaders and some testing.

Is it confirmed not compatible with 1.1 alpha, or is it just not tested on 1.1 alpha?

@ Steve Damsky -- T3D 1.1 Alpha includes lots of changes from T3D 1.0.1 and will likely be a major merge project. The current AFX release for T3D only supports T3D 1.0.1. We'll support T3D 1.1 once it's released in a final form that is neither an alpha or beta.

Jeff, did you get the email I sent you the other day about developing an RPG Kit on top of your AFX2 for T3D?

I excited that this is out finally, and have my credit card ready to go buy it!
