Shadow fading inverted

I have been messing around with the advanced lighting and i noticed that the shadows appear to be inverted? Perhaps it is my depth settings on the Sun object, or one of the other million possible reasons but im curious :
Can someone else reproduce this with pretty much standard settings?

I have been looking into the shadowing process and found a number of interesting things with the PSSM, and if it is just my fault, i wont need to submit changes to the shader files to reverse the depth on the shadows, so the fading comes out the correct way.
(T3D is awesome btw).

Thanks for confirming it's not just my settings

fwiw, i'm seeing this in a project using a custom character as well, so i'm also inclined to think it's something in the engine vs. particular assets.

It is the engine. I am thinking that was introduced sometime during the Beta period as well.

Thanks for the responses, so any hint as to which beta it was introduced? (@Xerves)

Ah, ok. I edited my other post for legibility. Thanks for the responses, so any hint as to which beta it was introduced? (@Xerves)

@Sven - As Hewster's link describes this a side effect of the ESM shadow map calculation. Turn up the 'overDarkFactor's.... 4 numbers for the 4 possible PSSM splits.

I had already adjusted these settings. I think my next gui will be a shadow settings gui with some nice explanations of what is happening where :)

Thanks Tom. i made some weird changes here and there in the shaders, inverting the fade (which made it look kinda cool, but still wrong).I had already adjusted these settings. I think my next gui will be a shadow settings gui with some nice explanations of what is happening where :)

Seems to help Tom, I had to set the first split to about 3000 or so. Haven't looked at what kind of performance change if any it makes though.

@Joshua - It won't impact performance at all.

Also in 1.1 we're planning on some improvements to the PSSM which should make tweaking the over dark factor easier and not require such big numbers like it does now.@Joshua - It won't impact performance at all.
