Windows 7 issues?

by Henry Shilling · in Torque X 2D · 09/23/2009 (5:05 am) · 22 replies

I have just installed windows 7, TX builder is wasted, I don't know why but the minimize/maximize button is greyed out an the window cannot be resized. When I load a project the screen goes nuts and my graphics driver starts resetting. I used this with the windows 7 beta and no problem. On the release big problems.

I have tried run as administrator, run in various compatibility modes, turning on various things like Disable themes etc. some will open, still kind of messed up and no resizing. best I get it runs at like 2fps.

Hey Henry,

When TX 3.0 was released I remember seeing a lot of threads on issues with TXB and Windows 7. I pulled up one of the old threads I saw that might help: http://www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/91787.

I'm not currently running it myself so I don't have any ideas based on experience, but hopefully that post helps out.

Yes I read that post as well, no dice. What is really odd is I had the beta release and it worked fine, however playing a game would mess up, now it is the other way around! Anyway I went back to vista, I hope they fix this soon as W7 will be out in about 30 days.

I got Win 7 Business, I got no problem. I'm running the startup project of Platformer Kit and I don't see any issue

I'm running in x64, with an gforce 8800.

Dunno, what could have happened to you, have you tried updating the video drivers?

That's how it was for me. However I recently rebuilt my PC as I dual boot into Snow Leopard, (no its not a mac) for doing my iPhone stuff. I did change the drives to AHCI mode and wonder if that could even have anything to do with it. I had issues before but it wasn't much of a problem since I would just test on the xbox anyway. Whats funny is even in Vista I am getting issues with the graphics stuttering. Starting to wonder about my card, think I may go get a 9800. I have an 8600GTS.

Yeah, if you are having issues with other games/graphics programs, that points directly to your video card. You should check the card on another machine, just for the sake of knowing if it's ok, or not. Or even better if you want to upgrade it, do so.

I have just installed Torque X 2D and I had a couple of weird errors. I have XNA 3.1 and Visual Studio 2008. Also, I have Windows 7 Professional x64. But anyways, my issues are when I select Create at the initial menu, it wants me to open a project instead. As well, when I open a demo project and want to Save Project... it crashes. Anyone know why? Or have helpful suggestions? I have a ATI Radeon 4850 and it has no issues with anything else.

It's also completely useless for me on Windows 7 Home Professional 64-bit. Everything runs ok but trails get left, editing an animation is impossible since most of the window doesn't display a lot of the time, can't change the window size, can't use the numpad for editing fields, sometimes textboxes will not take input.

I still have the 32-bit RC on my laptop, I'll see how it is on that.

I am running Windows 7 with 8800 and haven't had any issues except needing to set <SimulateFences>true</SimulateFences>

Windows 7 Ultimate x64, no problems.

Hmm, runs fine on the 32-bit RC version. This is bizarre.

There are some weird issues all around. When I run TXB I can see a usb device pop off and on, it also happens when I run my project. Just weird, why does that happen. Runs great on my desktop, W764, i7, gForce8600. Runs well on my laptop too. w732. I am going to bet that it has somethng to do with your graphics drivers. I had it on this same PC before windows 7 shipped and had issues, now none.

I also have TGB, when I run TGB and 3DSmax at the same time 3DSmax loses it's contextual menus.

Weird stuff... I have W7 Ultimate and no issues at all with TBX (2D), only with 3D but I think that's related to the VS2008 interaction not working properly, nothing to do with W7.

Ok, here is major issues, I have purchased a PC laptop, installed C# 2008 express, XNA game studio 3.1.0.1, and tried to install Torque X, it requires C# 2005 express, so I dug around the internet until I found a way to get it downloaded from MS and installed, it then installed TorqueX the latest that I can get from GG, I opened up C# 2005 express and tried to just create a basic project, and got an error stating that the csproj was invalid and I could not perform that operation.

I have already installed the update for C# 2005 that MS released for Vista and also installed the C# 2005 express SP1 for Vista, and the express version works just fine, but for the life of me on Windows 7 I can't create a new Torque X project and it simply won't work with C# 2008.

When will both of these problems be resolved?
I would up load screen shots but this forum doesn't allow images to be uploaded to the forum.

I will put together a video of the whole problem tonight when I get a moment, to me this is a high priority show stopping BUG.

Hi Jonathan,

I think you mixed up the versions and installed an old one: Torque X works just fine with VS2800. Please verify the Torque version you're trying to install.

Cheers,
Pino

The only version I have available for download, 1.0.5.1.msi from my products downloads page, I have no other Torque X version I can download. And it will absolutely not work with C# 2008 or Windows 7

This is the only link I have for Torque X in my downloads and I was an early adopter.

Torque X Builder Download 06/21/2007 (11:23 pm)

I have absolutely no other links and that only lets me get version 1.0.5.1 period.

That's no good. Current version is 3.1 which is not for free anymore.

Um, I paid, so since I paid you are saying I shouldn't be allowed to have it? I was a paid for early adopter, not a free bee

Jonathan I would talk to GG about this. I really doubt that either of the parts is going to ever work, VS2005 is no longer supported and I do not know about the 1.05 version of TX.

I have gotten ahold of David at GG and I am working through this to get a resolution. More like a misunderstanding on my part as to where to download the latest version, it is no longer on the GG website to download it, it is strictly attached to the Premium channel on the CC. (which forces anyone to have a $99 cheap annual membership, but who cares)

I just need to make sure my key works, but 3.1.0 is not up on the CC yet.
