Chat Mapper

I recently stumbled onto a tool called Chat Mapper. It allows the user to visual map conversation trees. Additionally, it can hide certain options until conditions are met - be that the NPC has to have a certain Respect, Trust, or Adoration for the PC, or an option has been selected.

It exports as XML and is free for personal, independent, and commercial use. It sounds like a no lose situation here. Just wanted to throw it out to the community.

...I'm thinking of making an XML to YackPack.

Very cool looking tool -- I only wish they had a Mac version so I wouldn't have to run Parallels to use it.

Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Chad,

I just stumbled across this... and I am much in your debt. This is going to save me a whole lot of time. Now I can get my writer to actually make the dialogs himself, instead of having him write them out on the wiki, and have a programmer make the script.

Worst case scenario, I write a quick Java app to convert from xml to Torque Script. Another option is make Yack Pack actually understand the XML, like you mentioned.

Have you pursued this at all? If you write this code, could you share it with me? If I end up writing the code, I'll be happy to share it with anyone who may want it.

I ended up making a parser for T3D-v1.0. There are still quite a few minor features that I would like to polish off. I posted an example YackPack program on the Chat Mapper Forums.

Because of this post, I am now trying to work with the Chat Mapper crew so that there will be an 'Export to Torque: YackPack' option.

Sweet! I just posted over on their forums offering to provide a mapping document if they needed it, but it sounds like you have it well in hand.

I posted my XML-to-YackPack parser on the Chat Mapper Forums. I'm sure there are bugs, but it seems pretty solid. I'm all up for community feedback to add new features.

I am happy to report that Chad has developed an extension to integrate YackPack export capability and it is now included with the most recent version of Chat Mapper. Thanks Chad!

I'm sure there are features and/or bugs with the exporter. Let me know and I will add/fix them as quickly as possible.

I just downloaded Chat Mapper, and this thing is great.
Also I just exported a conversation out into the Yack Pack format and I am going to test it out to see how it work.
Thanks!

The new version of chat-mapper does not have the capability of exporting to yack pack. Does anyone know of a technique of getting the new output to yack pack?

Someone has actually recently stepped up to develop a new Yack Pack exporter and we will be packaging this with version 1.1 of Chat Mapper, scheduled for release on December 15th. :)

Aahhh thanks John for bringing this up again... I remembered this program about a month ago and went looking for it, but couldn't find it, no matter what combination of 'dialogue', 'tree' and 'editor' I searched with :P.

Ben, I went ahead and bought v 1.0, figured I would get a head start on learning to use it since 1.1 should be out in a few days.
Looking forward to exporting to the yack pack format.
