Blender also has a great exporter, but I think it might be made redundant by 2.5 :P. We'll have to see.

Blender is free. Lots of people find the interface confusing. I never have, but they seem to be making some pretty huge changes in the coming 2.5 update.Blender also has a great exporter, but I think it might be made redundant by 2.5 :P. We'll have to see.

Not too sure about creating meshes in Milkshape as I am not a 3D Artist by ANY means, but modding existing models with the toolset is no problem.
Btw: I have created some basic meshes (technically shapes, lol) but merely for small scale low-detail items.

I prefer Milkshape, It's $35... Though I havnt actually created any characters, but for Vehicles, Items and Weapons its extremely easy to modify and animate existing meshes, and the interface is easy to use as well. Not too sure about creating meshes in Milkshape as I am not a 3D Artist by ANY means, but modding existing models with the toolset is no problem.
