Particle Help!

Hey I need some help adding particles to a shape.
I really don't have any scripting skills. where should I start?
I know I should probably put the datablock in marble/client/server/scripts/gem.cs
(I'm adding a particle emitter to the gem for example)
So now I'm a bit lost .. what scripts do I need to edit and/or add coding to?
