by valie · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 09/09/2009 (7:37 am) · 10 replies

Anyelse have already developed a MMORPG layer based on TGEA with functional vehicles classes implemented? If yes, we are interested to make an offer

Well Valie perhaps you could search for a Tribes 2 RPG. I think it had some vehicle class objects in it and they worked just fine.

Well, if you're just looking for regular vehicles, then just look for resources and posts regarding vehicles? There isn't much reason why they can't be used for an RPG (with proper modifications, of course).

Auto Assault did that a few years ago. Given that NCSoft shut it down in 2007, they'd probably be willing to share for cheap.

They didn't use Torque for the project, AFAIK, and I have doubts about a company like NCSoft sharing ;) Besides, there's vehicle resources and threads on this site for free- or for cheap, if you take into account some of the stuff in the store. They may need some porting- I don't know how up to date they are- but it gets you started.

Auto Assault just used the Torque networking IIRC.

Dude, knowledge and models are free. I dont even see why you need to say "mmorpg" aspect of this conversation? mmorprg, rpg, fps.. no difference in vehicles except how they are used probably

The difference is what's being sent through the network for a single vehicle. This is probably why he's mentioning it is an mmo, so we know, that it's not a 4 players racer, where you'd have totally different goals to aim for.

I can see why he's asking - I'm also planning on creating new vehicle classes that are lighter on the network.

Indys have no business developing MMO's. Period.

And GG should be ashamed of themselves for even giving them (false) hope.

Indies have developed MMOs. With Torque. Creating an MMO is not easy, granted. And you're obviously trolling.

Valie: I was working on Tribes2 RPG
If you have any questions for me I will be wiling to help.
I also have a lot of files from them that I would be willing to share.

MMOs are tough but if you can get some good programmers on board and start a project you may just get somewhere. There are a lot of addons that can take you far.
