Plan for Melv May

Alrighty,

Spent some time with my wife to make up for IGC and now she has kindly allowed me to get back to Torque, bless her!

I've spent a couple of days with a pen and paper going through the design of my new game. Staying away from the PC for long periods of time has helped as there are too many distractions there.

I've got about 6 pages of diagrams/notes which should just about cover it. I want to go into a little more detail with the UI but then I should be set to start.

I'm realistically looking at 2-3 months work, time allowing.

Hopefully it should be fun to play for all ages. That doesn't mean it's going to be a lame parlor game but more of a paced game.

Don't worry special effects will be there for those who need that kind of thing but they will get added when they should be, at the end.

This should give me a much broarder experience with the engine and hopefully provid a really neat and addictive game for everyone to play.

This is definately a game that can be completed by one man in the time period so watch this space!

Think small, think fun, think completion, think "Proven Success"!

Can you give us a hint as to what the game's going to be about? :-)

I'd like to keep it a little secret for a few more weeks. Not because I want to hype it or anything but I would like to solidify the gameplay before I start waffling as to it's content. That way you don't see my behind-the-scenes wrestling!

I will tell all fairly soon, promise.

Secret ploy to get everyone talking about what Melv is really working on. Sounds like a teaser marketing strategy to me. He'll have us ready to bribe him just to get the first exclusive screenshots here at GG.

I wager its a beer drinking game. Anyone have a pool going?

lol I know now...

Protagonist: Jason Boyer
Setting: 169 West 6th Avenue
Plot: ...like Jay said, it has to do with beer drinking.

My main character is a fair-haired, likable chap who's main objective is to organise an 'event' within the time period allowed, typically 6 weeks.

There are many things put in his way to hinder his progress. He must locate various 'sponsers' and aquire their support. Along the way he must catch 'gems' so that he can gain energy by 'eating'.

He must then convince the minor game characters to follow him to his 'event' and provide tokens so that they can 'drink'.

He can give them all tasks and hopefully they will generates 'products' from mining the resources provided.

To win, you must ensure that your 'villagers' are happy and content whilsts trying to collect 'gems' along the way.

I guess the genre would be single-player/adventure/marketing. ;)

Sound familiar?
