--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The news from today: Homo Sapiens survival adventure game is availlable to play.

The demo game coming with 5 weapons, 4 wave mission and 2 escort mission and a few creatures.
Everything is pre polished and should work well (hopefully :)). The environment is still in developing.

How to play?
------------

Download the game : Click Here

Extract the zip file to a place of your choice and start the game with HomoSapiens.exe
The verry first time you start the game, it take a bit longer, about the shader generation and cachet DTS files.

Now you start with only 20 food and a pant.
Explore the world, find stones and wood, meet the other (npc)people you see at places.
Buy a knife, so you can go out to hunt. You need always food or your energy going low and you need to make a hold to regen.

you can sprint, but that use more energy also.

Use f1, f2 and f3 keys, to get more info about the game and how the key setting.
Use also the instructions button to get some start help.

Enjoy the stonage island, and may send me a mail, about your experiances if you play Homo Sapiens.

Happy eastern all

Congrats on your game!

Unfortunately it would not run for me, I got a message about directx 9 (which I'm sure I have) and PixelShader 1.1 (which I'm not sure about).

Running Win7 with a GeForce GTS 450.

Same error here and I'm using GeForce GTX 650 ti. I am absolutely certain I have downloaded that June 2010 Runtime as a fix for something else. I might try it. I fear messing up my Direct X SDK somehow though.

hmm, thats weird!
It is using the Mit version and everything at my system run well.
I only remember, that this has to do with dx stuff. can you send me what exactley the error is, what it tell when it happens.
I know,it needs some thing to install.. but why that happens?
I be using win7 ati7770 older phenom 4 core cpu.
May nvidia is missing some thing?

Did you run the DXsetup again? I'm sure it should solve the problem.

Did a quick test, but got bored fast, since collecting those items takes so much time and the resources are so sparse.
You should make it more casual somehow, some fast success experiences for the player at the beginning and some simple instructions and tasks as a tutorial.
And I would not overuse the groundcover billboards so much, they are not very nice, especially with such huge plants, since they are not visible in the distance which makes it quite obvious. The groundcover also hides the resources, so they are not visible very good, I would make smaller grass with the groundcover, that does not overgrow the items you have to collect and fits better to the ground and for all bigger plants use real shapes.

@ Duion.. Wondering how you find items by a quick test.

All items glow and are easy to find. One of the experiances is to find out where those places are. They are most not in the highgrass, but some also are there. You can get the first knife within 10 minute. All recources for this are near the start point.

This is not a shooter where you get in action from first step on! It have to do with exploring. If you get your first weapon, you can hunt and get more and better resources from cretures.
For ppl with less patiance, may an idea could be to have the knife from start on.

The environment is still in developing, also each other thing in that game. It is a early demo.

Thanks for the quick test!

New Update:

fixed a bug.
Add the DX runtime installer, for ppl getting problems with dx9.
Some more wood resources at the start place.

People these days are demanding, you have to get them interested in your game fast, otherwise they will lose interest.
Look for example how life is feudal has done it, there you can search for resources almost anywhere, on every rock ground texture you can search for rocks, on grass you can cut grass and on every tree you can gather wood, this gives some results fast and anywhere, even if it takes long in total, it is also more realistic this way.
You could let the player use a stick or rock as weapon from the start, just something that can be used to kill the weakest enemies, from then you can improve.

Duion, is 10 minute not quick enough to get the first weapon?
It really have enough resources around! You don't need to go far to find 5 wood 2 firestone and 10 stone. You also don't need to go to the creatures to find those. If you just walk around the start place, you find all that in 10 minute.

At least, the stick idea is not bad! Will think about how to implement that, if all slots are used. Or does it add more as 8 weapons to the cicle weapons?

Unfortunately, the included Direct X runtime didn't fix the problem nor did using the June 2010 runtime that usually always fixes direct x problems. Hmm.

Im not at my computer. It was a direct x 9 error. Missing pixel shader 1.1. I can give you exact later.

First start did give me the DirectX error.

Solution:

- Delete config.cs and prefs.cs from the scripts/client map
- Delete all files in the shaders/procedural map

After you've done so the game should run, at least it did in my case.

The game looks nice. One thing I would like to mention is the sound of the footsteps, it gets a little boring after some time. Maybe you can try to vary them a little.

I do like the environment and how it is set up. Nice work.

@ Richard:

Thanks for the solution. I think it should also work by only delete the pref.cs, about the config.cs only have some keyboard key settings.
And then clean shader cache.

Yea, the footsteps needs an update, about they are not all right connectet yet. The whole asset will get more polishing at end. For now the demo is more to find out, how the game play is. All grafic will be improved over time. Also on my plan are more animations at the creatures, and maybe different attacking animations and dmg. A lot will get more improved, if all basics are done and work propper.
On my plan are also more monsters and missions. maybe also a weapon boost magic and such.

Thanks for test :)
