Still active and some new Level Design.

So I am still working on my original game idea, I noticed in the past that it is going to be harder than I thought, but I really want to finish this idea sooner or later. Some time ago I did a complete restart of my art and design style, since I was not satisfied with what I had so far.

My plan so far consisted of redoing all the art style and create a new demo level which will also serve for playtesting later, my old levels were far too big and consisted mostly of nature, this was not satisfying for a classical deathmatch-level so I tried something new. -This part is mostly done now

Next part of my plan is adding some very basic gameplay mechanics, setting up a master server and release a first alpha version for download. -This is what I am working on at the moment.

If that is done, I plan to add more gameplay mechanics, own weapons, custom player model and of course more levels.

Now about the level design, I tried several techniques and styles and this is what I was most satisfied with so far, so I finished the level for a prototype. The scenery is a ruined city in the desert, this saves a bit time to model appropriate background models. For the destroyed buildings, I build modular assets, that I combined into different layouts.

Here are some screenshots:

I also set up a moddb page for some publicity and to see what people think about it:

You can also find some more screenshots in higher resolution there, but there is just this one level so far.

Yes, everything will be open source, the assets will be CC0 and the rest stays MIT license.
I am not sure yet about the format how to distribute it. My plan is that the assets can be used right within the editor. So you will be able to play around it when I get the first release done.
The source files I will likely upload to my site, as there is basematerial for textures already up.
But it all takes time and I tend to be lazy...

@Duion,
Either someone was cooking meth or they left the gas on in that town.

Very nice looking ruins there.

My main suggestion would be to consider how a buildings built, there's foundations and most the time the floor isnt just the same as the earth around it and often dug out with a cavity under the ground level floor. Not directly aimed at yourself duion its something thats done in alot of games even supposed 'AAA' stuff where 'recent' ruined houses have the same terrain inside the house as outside. Personally i think it makes a more complete feel to them to either give them a cavity or concrete slab foundation in what would have been the original boundaries of the building, then adding rubble etc too it, because a scene thats been flattened that much would have alot of material still around (Unless someones been by and cleared it all out leaving just the walls, theres no signs that the buildings ever had ceilings in the first place)

Great advice, Andy.

The insides of the buildings have concrete floor, mixed with rubble, there is just no good screenshot for it. Maybe I will create a slab concrete terrain texture, or some slab meshes, but everything takes time to build, my goal was getting away very cheap.
