Re-Spawn: Alpha v1.0.0.5 Released

by Quinton Delpeche · 04/29/2014 (1:27 am) · 8 comments

On April 25th 2014, we released Re-Spawn v1.0.0.5 which addressed some of the major issues we encountered. The turn around time for this release was about 2 weeks and I am quite happy with the fixes and changes we got done during that time.

Testers and Server Hosters
The player uptake of the game hasn't been what I expected and I suspect this is due to the lack of servers in other areas (currently only have a South African server). So if any of you out there are willing to host a server for us, please get in touch and I will send you an Official Server License and Key. You will also get full credits in the game and a new server hoster page will be created on the website with your details.

The server is extremely stable and requires no support or maintenance, we merely need locations and willing volunteers.

We are also looking for more testers, so please download the game from here, or spread the word if the game is not your type of game and get fragging. :)

Indie DB
We decided to take the plunge and list the game on IndieDB, we will monitor the popularity here and hopefully will be able to engage more players.

Next Release
The next release of Re-Spawn (v1.0.0.6) is currently underway and will include 2 new maps and a host of new features that didn't make it in to v1.0.0.5. We plan on releasing new versions every 2 to 3 weeks and are optimistic that we can hit these deadlines now that the base game is complete.

Quenton: One word: AMAZING. Can't wait to try it out. Would also like to make a public offering to you as well here at GG. Would you like to work with me on a content pack or Afterlife game after your done with your game? I'd be more then happy to work out a deal with you. Your work is great man. I'm trying to be a model artist as you can see, but I'm far from as good as you are. Keep up the great work, and if you ever decide to want to join forces for any project, hit me up and we will talk.

Best to you my friend,

Will

Hello Quinton Delpeche,

I watched your video Re-Spawn Factory level in Google+, and I found it very good, and its graphical user interface is excellent; however, I have some suggestions:

1. The scenario is very small for an indoor type game. If you could increase it a bit more, add some windows (fake or not, if possible!) it would become better and more interesting for whom is playing. Thus, the players could spawn again in different locations. Furthermore, you might try to make the hallways and stairs wider to avoid collision problems with other characters.

2. Regarding to the pain screams, as the game level is closed and apparently was built using materials such as concrete and metal, you could add a small quantity of echo, but not too much, in your audio screaming.

Moreover, you also could slightly change the pitch of the it (that is, making its tone, more basses or treble, just a few), of course, you will need to create other audio files as well with those new sounds. This might help to simulate the presence other people into your scenario and not just one person yelling all the time.

3. Audio and sound effects in a game are very important items because they contribute to create a mood of tension, suspense, etc. for anyone who plays or simply watching your game. Unfortunately, it is not an easy thing to do. I personally think to choose good audio track and sound effect it is one of the most difficult steps in the development of a video game, being a 3D or 2D game.

I hope these tips might help you in some manner.

Good luck and success!

I think this is just calculated out of site visits and if you make advertising everywhere you get a lot of hits.

@Duion: Yes I am aware how it is calculated ... you miss the point ... but anyway.

Just for clarification ... this is the point: Social Media or Unsocial Media
