Going To PAX East Again

Chad Weisshaar and I are going to PAX East this year. All of our multi-touch games have been updated, and we made a new prototype game that we're hoping to show off. (The hope is with the WiFi situation.) If you're going to be there, look for the Mesa Mundi booth.

We started a new web site, Dark Infinity Software. That's where we'll be releasing our freeware game Fire Platoon.

"Fire Platoon" was built with the new T2D with a few modifications of our own. We've integrated a mongoose web server, the Awesomium web-rendering engine, FTGL font rendering, a QR Code Generator, libraries for additional file formats, and a lightweight javascript library for websocket communication to T2D scripts. You can watch a video of it below.

The exciting thing about this engine is that we can build these easy-to-connect-to, real-time board games. (They don't have to be real-time, but it's still relatively easy.) Our first idea is to modify "Fire Platoon" into a role-playing like system where you play a series of missions (houses, apartments, warehouses, office buildings, etc.). Between the missions you would spend your experience on new skills and equipment.

Our future ideas include a real-time space game, a real-time economic simulator (Mars Colonization?), and a few board games.

I can't wait to pick up the changes for the new platforms and see those working (especially since my TV computer is Ubuntu; my new games will be available in the living room). Once I'm back in sync with the rest of T2D, I'm hoping to share some of these changes.

Thanks everybody!

I really, really like the multi-screen board game concept you have here. The idea behind Fire Platoon is excellent too. I wanted to give the game a try but I guess I'll have to wait until you have an OSX version ready.

Thanks for showing off T2D MIT like this, it is awesome seeing what other developers come up with using the engine.

Cool, will be great to see more Torque games at PAX.

Any chance will be attending PAX West, in Seattle too ?

I've been going last couple years, would be great to see more indy games there.
