DevQuest / GG Interactive

As you may have read recently in the latest post from Eric Preisz, GarageGames has formed a new professional services business and brand called GG Interactive. The company has undergone quite a metamorphosis over the last couple of years and is now making great efforts and inroads to being a go-to solution for technical development needs of companies in the game, themed entertainment and education spaces.
Of course, with a service business is the work of bringing awareness to the companies that we seek to attract. Business development, sales and marketing are in full gear with Eric and I working daily to reach out through our extensive networks and connections we've formed over the many years of our respective careers. The same thing is happening at every other company out there who needs customers to maintain their business and to succeed. These efforts are no small feat! Day in and day out we send communications of all types to all kinds of people out there and we wait. Fortunately, we've had success and reception from very good clients who we've gone on to build strong relationships with. We don't sit on our laurels and with every success; we work harder to find more clients and projects to support.
Our next big business development effort will happen at the Game Developer's Conference; actually right across the street from the conference! On Wednesday, March 19th from 5pm to 6:30pm we are hosting DevQuest at Chronicle Books, located at 680 Second St. in San Francisco. The idea of DevQuest came from the recognition that so much of what we do requires building relationships and trust. Companies are full of people (no I'm not quoting a certain politician)...people who make decisions on whether or not to spend large sums of money and entrust other people to provide highly technical and creative services for them. GG Interactive and many others in our industry are all going to the Game Development Conference to learn, educate, meet old and new friends and build projects and businesses. We'll all be roaming the show doing our best to create relationships with people. As is oftentimes the case, you do a lot of running around and occasionally get lucky finding the right folks to talk to. Eric and I asked why we couldn't make this event more effective and fruitful, not only for us, but for other service providers and those companies out there who seek assistance for their projects and initiatives? It became clear we needed to create an event where we could bring the right people together to get to know each other in a comfortable and fun environment. Let's humanize this effort. Let's get people to sit down and get to know each other, like couples would do in a speed-dating scenario. DevQuest was born.
So, if you're a contractor/vendor and have been in business for at least 2 years and have at least 5 full-time employees, you're a perfect fit for DevQuest. If you're a company with a budget of at least $100,000 of budget to spend on game-related development, we'd love to have you participate. We've invited many very notable and talented studios from both sides to the event and continue to seek others to join!
We're very excited by the planned turnout and are looking forwards to the new relationships!

For every 10 companies we contact we get about one acceptance. Contractor accepts have a 90% conversion rate.

@Ron - We understand. There ARE a lot of great lone wolfs out there. The reason for the bar regarding team size is that we need to attract the companies and they will want people who have worked together for a while. For every 10 companies we contact we get about one acceptance. Contractor accepts have a 90% conversion rate.

like during the GDC in Shanghai this fall, I'd be glad to assist you if needed.
Greetings from China, Nils

I don't meet up with your requirements (yet), but if you're perhaps thinking to do is more internationally; like during the GDC in Shanghai this fall, I'd be glad to assist you if needed.

@Nils, Thank you, though I did not say I was leaving... just stepping way back from the front lines. By the way, nice post about 'fluid game design'.

@Eric, Yep, Like I said, I get it... not an 'issue' and I can infer where you were pointing with the concept. Just putting in my 2 cents :-)@Nils, Thank you, though I did not say I was leaving... just stepping way back from the front lines. By the way, nice post about 'fluid game design'.

5 member required? So BeamNG is out, they only have 4. So if they are not successful enough memberwise, for what kind of companies is this aiming?

On the company side, we've attracted mostly AAA type studios. On the vendor side, we've attracted mostly small firms, say the size of BeamNG, who are mostly developers who were working for AAA studios but left to build their own company.
We knew it might be a bit of a wrong fit to promote this here, but I also wanted to gauge how many people would be interested in it. And of the people interested in the event, how many will actually be at GDC?

We can scale this to broader audiences in the future if there is demand. On the company side, we've attracted mostly AAA type studios. Yes, I have read it, but I would like to hear some examples, the people or companies from this board are the only ones I know and they do not fit into the category.

Lots'o folks turned out, both companies looking for contractors and contractors looking to make new relations. GG Interactive staff introduced vendors they have been using for years, which I can tell you as a company looking for contractors, was a hugely valuable introduction. GG Interactive's contact from Disney was there, as well as Jake Witherell, COO from Schell Games (of Jamie Schell fame), and others.
Thank you, again, to the whole GG Interactive team!!!

DevQuest was an enormous sucess! Still, I also understand where you are coming from. Don't misunderstand me. I am ALL in favor of the effort and the public announcement since it helps many many indie dev teams. Unfortunately, guys like me, we are still left out.
(by the way.... it's good to see you on the blogs! I'm a long time admirer.
