Hi everyone. I want to make a game demo of a boss battle. I am a 3D artist and I have been a very small part of WinterLeaf Entertainment for a year or so on the Dawn of Ascension team. This project is completely separated from DoA. I named the game Academy of Immortal Souls and the demo is one of the missions in the training simulator of the Academy. The game is a third person shooter. I used Kory Imaginism's resource Over-the-shoulder camera, amazing resource! But my programming skills are very poor and I need to find a partner to make this demo happen.

I started the design a month ago and so far I have the prototype level, a boss, a minion and some buildings as background environment. The level is simple. Its a square room with a platform in the middle. I want the battle to last around 10 minutes. The player starts and goes to the middle platform to start the battle. The player shoots the boss till around 75% life and the boss will push you out of the platform and a shield will surround the platform preventing the player from shooting the boss and the boss will summon his minions. The player must to destroy the beacons powering the shield to be able to go to the middle and shoot the boss down.

I have some pictures, what do you guys think. Would you like to play a megaman/metroid/gears of war game?

Thanks guys. I am aiming for a cartoony and vivid style. I don't want shadows lol. The project at the moment is mostly just art.

Why don't you use lighting? It is one of the most important parts, if not the most important part.
If you would let the lamp parts of the map emit real light, this could get interesting, but at the moment it just looks unfinished and amateurish.

I am sorry Duion that you don't like the idea, some cartoons don't use shadows much, does it mean that that art is unfinished too? Just youtube bugs bunny cartoons and WB uses very little shadow. I think light is part of our universe and it is our reality. My game is fantasy. I am not aiming for realism. Another reason why I chose that is because my main demographic that I am aiming for are kids like 5 to 15, and a fact that I know is that small kids are attracted to solid and vivid colors. But I do want to make the game for everyone. I am an amature at this, if I was a pro I would be making that $ for making this. Thanks a lot for your feedback though I will keep it on my mind.

Making your game cartoon like on purpose does not automatically make your job easier, you will need a specific art style to make your game convincing .
If you look at successful cartoon-style games like team fortress 2 or some of the modern cartoon films, you will notice most or all of them use lighting.
You just said yourself cartoons use very little shadow, but they do and you refer to very old simple cartoons, today many cartoons look almost real.

In the end it is your decision, but in my opinion you give away much options to create atmosphere by ignoring lighting.
