Greetings to all.

My name is Luis Anton Rebollo, and I've been working for a few months on a port Torque3D to Linux and OpenGL. I present a new update of the branch and a new branch for Mac OSX.

Branches for Linux/SteamOS and OSX:

Compiled in:
  • Windows 7 with Visual Studio Express 2012
  • Ubuntu 13.10 32-bit with Make and Codeblocks 12.11
  • OSX 10.8.5 with XCode 5
Has been tested in a SteamOS Alchemist 7.

OSX info: www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/136016

Roadmap for this new year:

This year I have intention to devote to the community at least 8 hours per week, and post some general interest code of my personal projects.

My roadmap for this year would be porting Torque 3D to all possible platforms, giving the possibility to choose the OS where developm and platforms in which to publish your application or game.

Linux, SteamOS, OSX, iOS and Android are my goals.

But it is hard work and could lengthen the project, so I thought to make a crowdfunding.

Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is used to accelerate the port of Torque 3D Android, iOS, OSX, and Linux/SteamOS and buy the necessary hardware to support OSX and iOS. There are many things that decide, especially legal issues I need to consult. I hope to start the campaign the first week of February.

I will publish a draft of the campaign in the Forum and I would like to ask for help from the community:
  • As many will have noticed, will help it corrected the text of the campaign and the press release.
  • Another important issue is the rewards that I have still no clear address.
  • Lists of sites that could be interested in the campaign.
  • Ideas about the video.
  • Any constructive comments will be very grateful.
I would like to get in touch with developers interested in helping the project, I hope to do not disturb if receive any mail.

Need to talk to someone from Torque3D Committe, with GEEED FPS project and if possible with someone of GarageGames.

You can find my email on the button for donations.. https://www.paypalobjects.com/en_US/i/btn/btn_donate_LG.gif

Why donate for something that will be free?

My time to work on Open Source projects is limited. With crowdfunding could help end the port more quickly and devote time to other important things as implementing Lua or support for multithreading. On this page there are many ideas that would be useful for the whole community.

That will happen if it does not go well the crowdfunding?

The only thing that will happen is that work will take much more time

Luis, you are making amazing progress on the ports, and I'm personally happy to see it running under SteamOS. :) Feel free to send me an email if you need to chat.

Great idea and am sure not only the community but the world will want this.

On a side note i doubt that the SteeringC and wel neither GG will do much here but hey they can proof me wrong.

However if i where you i would avoid going it the T3D way of things, T3D has a name, a reputation and not a good one.
It is your choice if you are going to do this for T3D but there is no active developement team for it.

Go the Greed way of things and you will not only be able to showcase your work - it will get the respect it deserves.

Anyways enough from my bla bla - its up to you

This is great news Luis and I can't wait to see the progress I will donate for sure :)

Just a question was the Oculus Rift ever tested in Linux with openGL?

If that is up and running I can post this on the oculus subreddit and I believe you will have a higher amount of money to help it along as the Roadmap for the Rift is all PC platforms and Android so I believe there will be many many people interested in this and will be willing to support :)

T3D or GREED...I agree the work you have been doing is amazing. I'll try to help out where I can :)

I am excited to see your progress and will help out as much as I can.

I think GREED seems to be the direction at the moment, especially as I like FPS.

I will be keeping an eye on this and seeing how my wallet is too :-).

Great stuff, Luis.

Quick question from someone who has never understood rendering ... does the OpenGL branch work on Windows? Like when TGE had the choice between DirectX and OpenGL renderers in the options menu?

I'll definitely be putting something towards this when I get the chance.

As for the T3D or GREED thing. I'd say T3D main, so even people not making an FPS can make use of it ;)

Yeah I have always wanted Torque to head back towards having a single renderer for all platforms like with TGE.

@Steve TGE really only had a wrapper that converted the OpenGL instructions to Direct3D(7?) once you selected that in the options.

Looking awesome. Just downloaded the zips from github and trying to get a hold on that codeblock thing(just installed in on a win machine though... should be installed on Ubuntu instead Lol! ). I might wanna install a shadow/dual Ubuntu on my lappy(why the hell did I uninstall Ubuntu in the first place???).

Logging of and leaving Mac Donald... going for the temple of silence(library).

Edit: Noisy as hell here. They are building a Metro station just outside the window.... Anyone said Temple of Noise? :o)

Thx to all :D

@Nin-Nin, I have not yet arranged part of the Oculus for OpenGL, i guess it won't work. If there may be people interested in the project of the Oculus community, it will add to the campaign ... thank you for the contribution.

Anyone know how to enable stereo vision without an Oculus Rift?

@Steve, in options you can choose between using DX9 or OpenGL on any OS, it is necessary to restart Torque3D.

@GREED, I am sorry not to have mentioned the project, but had already spoken with J0linar by mail about working in the campaign. My intention in collaborate with the whole community of Torque3D.

@J0linar we have to talk by mail :P

About Committee.
On the status of the committee, the committee is made up of all of us. It is a little our fault that no one outside of GG with rights to write to the repository on Github. I myself was thinking on send an apply, but the 2 times i thought that it was not the right person.

It is clear that this is not good for the community that the official repository this so stopped.

I hope to be able to submit my application to the committee when they have time to talk, but I am sure that in the community there are people better prepared than I am.

Torque3D Committee and GREED FPS are good for the community.

If the committee does decide to reboot I'll love to throw my name in. If NOT would the old committee mind if some of us reboot the T3D development branch?
I know there is GREED but that's gear toward FPS/TPS.. T3D committee 2.0 could reboot the original committees roadmap but just merge alot of the stuff that has came down the pipeline lately.
Dave or GG what do you say?

Ok, it is my fault hehehe

I'm going to open a new thread in the forum to talk about the committee. It is a very important issue to speak in a blog on another item.

I am sorry to have begun the offtopic

Great stuff Luis! You're about to take away some of my worries. I'll surely back you some more for this!

Running T3D on SteamOS could be the salvation of it IMO.

Hey Luis, is this also using the OpenGL version your making?

Hey Luis

If you use this template it allows you to enable and disable rift support in the gui

I've supported this all along and will continue to do so. You're a champion! Now if only I could get it working myself :P.

Congrats dude! It's great to see so many platforms open up with T3D now with all the hard work you've put into the OpenGL and platform work for T3D.

There's no feeling like when the engines decide to compile without any errors and then start up into a shiny demo :D

@Nils
SteamBox and SteamOS markets can be very interesting for indie developers , and perhaps a first step for PS4 and XboxOne .... as i would like to have a SDK from Sony or Microsoft :D

@raa
OSX uses OpenGL from the Linux branch, for Android and IOS is necessary to use OpenGL ES. I hope to be able to give support for OpenGL ES 2.0 using the code I have written for Linux using some tricks.

@Nin-Nin
Thank you very much. I will add in a issue of github to dedicate some time when possible.

@Daniel
Thank you very much for all your support to the project. Don't hesitate to send me a mail with your problems. I will try to resolve them as soon as possible.

@Frogger
See the engine running in SteamOS and OSX was a very pleasant sensation. I hope repeat it soon with Android and IOS.

@Gibby
hehehe... "de nada" :D

Thx to all.

After the rest of my free day, the work begins.

Already I have the roadmap for the campaign. I hope I do not take a long time to submit the draft of the campaign and i need your help in some things.

I shall keep you informed.

Slight OT, but see no way to contact privately. Luis, your paypal link does not work.
