The Game / Community Project / Open Assets

It is almost a year from now, since I heard from Torque 3D, my initial idea was to make some simple FPS multiplayer game, but then realised that there is pretty much to learn and Torque was not that far developed as some other engines.
So even though many people say "Torque is a FPS engine" and "a FPS is so easy to make" we are still not quite there, this is why I want to at least get this done.
Also I was not satisfied with my first art, that I decided to start over keeping the same style and quality all through and try to reach more realism.

This is the relaunch of my project, my goal is to provide a simple FPS game, that also could expand into a community project, since I cannot do all on my own and especially provide some open art assets, this is just a logical step that we need open assets, since Torque went open source.
But I depend on others to help me out, otherwise it will take me too much time to learn, in Exchange I can offer my assets and also some support for them.

I decided to start from the ground, so this means my first release includes terrain materials, I build them from pictures from my area almost everything I could find and tried to make them as realistic as possible and this is almost as good as it can get at the moment.

I hosted it as a repository of my project folder at: sourceforge.net/p/uebergame/game/ci/master/tree/

So if you already want to use my art for your own project or help me out with mine, you can go there and fork the repository. License is CC-BY 3.0, same as my other art and similar to MIT license.

There are 36 terrain materials at the moment of every kind of terrain you may need, grass, sand, dirt, rock, pavement, gravel etc... with base, macro, detail and normal maps with parallax ready all with material scripts already set up.

Next update will likely contain some shapes and non-terrain materials.
You can also make some suggestions what you want to have, or if you find something that could get improved, just tell me and I will update it.
At the moment I just provided the gameready, scaled down .dds files, that are small file size, fast to use and offer best performance, but if my collection is more complete, optimized and bugs are out, I thought about offering the source files as static download. If you have wishes for textures, this would be relatively easy to do for me, since I got some routine now and build an archive of my own reference material now.

Here are some previews of some terrain examples:

The repository also already contains some little script/gui changes, going more towards what I want to have later in the game, nothing special, just my first steps, either copied down here from the resources or figured out somehow.

What I am missing at the moment is scripts for different kinds of multiplayer gameplay, script and code changes for better movement, ballistics and damage system. And later of course one or more custom player model, weapons with sound and SFX. Also I am waiting for the master server to get done, so that I can start my own to host my games.

So if you want to help contact me, otherwise or just have fun. ;)

Those last three terrains look pretty fab, though the parallax is steep! The second-last rocks remind me a lot of Bondi beach. IMO the parallax look doesn't do too well on the organic textures though. Maybe it looks better in motion.

Actually it was pretty hard to find some rocks here to take pictures of, even sand and soil were relatively hard to find, in my area most ground is just either some kind of concreted or some kind of grass, but I finally found a place where they put a big rock on the ground or left it there, this is where some rock textures were made from.
Yes, I noticed some do not do so nice with parallax, but I left it on, even though without it looks a little more photorealistic, but the good thing is, with parallax it blends much better with the environment, because you can no longer see that it is a flat surface.
But everyone can use it and test himself and make suggestions, that is also why I put it up.
