Back, again, determined to finish the "ECK"

by Andy Wright · 07/24/2013 (2:34 pm) · 6 comments

Well,

Im back, again, I know i kinda went off the radar for nearly a year, but yeah, had a good reason for that. I'm just glad im still here at all lol, had some issues towards the end of last year, and was diagnosed with eye cancer in January which kinda fucked up alot of things in my life, but, it was caught in a really early stage and luckily, all results after radiotherapy have been great, life's back to normal pretty much, but with a different outlook now... Changed my job, something that has prettymuch no stress, im actually enjoying, and has the flexibility ive needed the last 6 months.
Been getting a bit more active over the past couple of months, tinkering with torque again, making random maps and trying out things to get different 'feels' to the atmosphere of a level.

Im going to be picking up what i have of the fabled ECK pack, The Environment Creation Kit, with a renewed focus to finish it off having gone through what i have here a few times now and looking back and learning a lesson of how feature creeps keep getting me distracted from saying something is complete and putting it to bed...

This map here is a new one, i wanted a map that like it had a hot atmosphere, so been playing around with the postfx along with scatter sky settings getting to grips with stuff again.

I'm still sticking with geocontrol, as its what I know, however that mad Australian hippy Dan managed to convince me to buy world machine, and ive played with that a little, but when i have the time to really sit down with it and do some proper learning, ill get my teeth into that to see what comes from it.

Obligatory picture wall coming, this time ill utilize thumbnails, clicky clicky for larger images.

And for an idea on the scaling of it... (fog/sky/vew distance settings changed just to show whole terrain fully)

On a side note, are there any organic prop modellers out there that would be interested in a profit share ?

Hey Andy, Good to see you are back and glad to hear you are on the road to recovery.

I might know an organic modeler. What you thinking? (you can email me at kapaun01 at gmail dot com if you prefer.)

Welcome back (so to speak) Andy! Glad to see you're getting back into the swing of things. I also noticed you're using the awesome cliff texture that comes with the 3DAAK (yeah, got to get up pretty early to catch me out!).

I can make a few things, but I can't hold a candle to Ron, of course. Getting there though (then again, so is he! *shakes fist).

Comfy bed tester? Trainee masseuse test patient? ;)

Nice pics, those hills and ridges look awesome.

@Steve, heh nah, working as a chef, something ive always enjoyed and loved the challenge when it gets busy.

Its feeling good again working on this pack, i completely lost interest and it burnt out my desire to even open torque and work on other projects before.
Have a clearer idea now of whats going into it aswell, so hopefully with a bit of patience and clarity, ill get it finished off this time around.

The ridiculous thing, thinking back to when i started this project off by just making myself a library of terrain textures, the shit thats happened to me... Hit by a bus in the middle of Hull, Slipped and tore my diaphragm because i didnt want to fall over lol, that nearly killed me if i wasnt lucky enough to have a colleage there to keep me breathing... then going through cancer... it cant actually get any worse now so its all gotta be an improvement from here on lol...
