GMK is open source from now

by Yuri Dobronravin · 04/23/2013 (7:47 am) · 22 comments

I should have done it year ago, but felt that I need to fix some obvious compatibility bugs first.

There are still some PhysX issues (seems like phyiscs is deleted twice on client and server), but in general it works with T3D 2.0 fine.

Of course any contributors are very welcome.

github.com/logicking/GMK

GuideBot and GuideBot Topology will follow and will upload it to GitHub as well. Alas without latest T3D compatibility.

Have to thank a lot for all your patience and support.

BIG THANKS for everyone who bought the product, without such support GMK wouldn't be possible at all

THANK YOU

Oh my, this is really something
i can not find a proper sentence to show how awesome this is

and am sure this will help alot especially since the key mechanics are
hard to build from ground up for ppl who just recentlly joined the T3D community, thanks Yuri!

a side question about the license/ how possible would it be to brand it mit? i do understand your concern about someone taking and just rebranding/ selling it under another name

However/ GMK with a MIT license could be properly included into T3D/ at least the major parts - where T3D would benefit from.

Nevermind i just saw this link www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/133892 u state there that u licensed it under mit/ now Tron is right about the headers they will have to be changed -
maybe the T3D Steering Commitee - will add GMK (assimilate) into the T3D roadlist?

Yuri: We appreciate you open sourcing GMK. Thank you!

But you should have really open sourced it after you ported it to the MIT'd T3D source since you can get into legal hot water for releasing non-MIT licensed Torque source code to the public. I can tell that the T3D sources you have in the GMK repository is for the retail Torque 3D because the complete lack of MIT copyright headers in the individual source files.

In this case since no license non-compatible third-party SDKs were distributed in your open sourcing of GMK that I'm sure GarageGames wouldn't necessary be troubled with it, but when it comes to licensing you really should be careful since other companies would definitely not be so lenient.

This is really great, now Torque 3D MIT can be a much better product with a lot of added features to make it easier to add common game mechanics.

Thank you.

Just one question, if it can be downloaded from github for free then why do I see it on sale in the store?

Is there any difference between the github version and the store version?

Oh and thanks I mean I am really surprised about this pleasantly surprised :o)

Yuri,
I've purchased guidebot but I was wondering is there a ETA on when guidebot will be going MIT?

Yuri:

Do you expect Guidebot to go MIT by end of this year? What are your plans for it as far as a date goes? Any idea? Looking forward to that release. Thanks!

Thanks,
Can you please merge GMK with Torque 3d, at least on upcoming version 4.0.

Yuri@ Lots of us out here excited by the release of GMK as MIT!

Managed to get it merged (and example level rebuilt) with the MIT3.0 release ... along with Recast, but would like to consider the guideBot add-on as well.

I was considering purchasing / merging the older guideBot code into my current project ... but would rather not re-invent the wheel, if not necessary.

In the process - Noticed that interior instances were removed along the way ... plus lots of other changes within the source.

Since you are limited on time - Are you open to assistance with updating your guideBot/gb topology code into T3D MIT 3.0? If so, send me an eval copy and I'll give it a try. (my email is listed in my profile)
