Slime City - Building Placement

by Weston Tracy · 02/02/2013 (1:45 pm) · 10 comments

This is artwork for our upcoming Windows/Mac/iPad RTS 'Slime City'. The challenge is to build a city while simultaneously fighting off an encroaching, ever-expanding slime.

We have building placement animations to show this week. One is inspired by the TRON light cycle draw-in. The other is inspired by recent Star Trek warp-in stretching FX.

The TRON effect was done using a single IFL playing a simple thin line expansion animation.

We're using a proprietary collada importer for all the 3D art in the game.

My favorite part about these animations is the brutally efficient way the beam cuts through the rock. That clean edge, and perfect square carved into the rock is something I have wanted to do for a while. That beam can cut through anything, no rock or palm tree is safe!

The narrative includes friendly aliens who are helping Earth rebuild its cities. This is how we explain advanced technology beaming in modern looking buildings : )

We're doing weekly development updates on our facebook page and our blog

Thanks!

Thanks guys! @Jimmy I'd imagine an android port would be next on the list if the iOS release does well.

All comments seem to go in the same direction but here's one more!

The animation and style of this game are pure candy. It really gives the game a unique character. Really well done.
