Neptun Pack Preview 3

by D Fasel · 12/16/2012 (7:48 am) · 10 comments

If I made the piranha model, I also was creating 3 attack animations. So I had to do this to all other AI models. If the fishes doing attack, they play now also one of 3 attack animations. The fishes have a pain animation, when they gets damage.

One of the community wishes was to make a sunken ship. This also was in my mind and i created one.

The pack got some more environment elements, like plants/corals and one new terrain texture.

Always a lot polishing at everything was happens.

Models in plane to implement:
-----------------------------
- White Shark (AI)
- Whale (AI)
- See Star(AI)
- Cancer (AI)
- more plants
- Stones,cliffs and such
- maybe more of community wishes. Just post your ideas here! :)

And here like always, a little preview movie

Ok, that's it for now, I wish you all a nice developing week.

This is really looking good.

One thing that bothers me is the movement of the creatures. It looks wrong. I think when a fish or shark or whale moves their whole body will tend to sway. I think if you could revisit the swimming animation and try to make it match the way they swim in real life it will help a lot. Another touch to animation would be to slowly show the gill movement of the fish and sharks. So even if a fish is relatively motionless its fins should move to maintain position and the gills should slowly move in and out. Finally on the animation give a couple of speed gradients. One for slow trolling, and one for high speed run away, or high speed gonna eat ya!

I am going to need some underwater stuff so I will have my eye on this pack!

@ Frank: The Dolphin,Shark and Orca have sway, but i think your right. It needs more sway! I will polish all the animation. Thanks a lot for your post, this really helps to make it better.

D,

Frank is correct. Work with the animations a bit. Think of how things actually move underwater. Do a youTube search for underwater footage. I think that will help really bring this pack over the top. Just to make sure....you have made incredible advancements. Keep going!

I just start to polish the animations today. It will fit the specific animal much better. At moment I reworking the dolphin. This also means more polishing at everything on the model. The new animation set will content the following animations.

- Swim_forward
- Swim_backward
- Swim_left
- Swim_right
- Swim_root
- Swim_sprint
- Swim_slow
- Attack1-3
- Death1-3
- Pain
- Jump (special move)

I think this animation set should be ok for most games and for AI models.

D,

Sounds like you have a good plan. I might recommend checking out some FarCry 3 footage as well. They did an amazing job with underwater wildlife. Just a thought.

Thanks Ron! I was looking at Youtube, a day ago, to get the right creature animation of the Dolphin and Orca. While searching i find a lot other interesting creatures and how they move.

D,

That's the key to animation. Knowing how things move. When I first started (many many years ago) I actually read through a few books on anatomy both for humans and animals. It helps to understand the skeletons and muscles and how they work together when a creature moves.
