Introducing: afxModern

After many long months of coding/scripting, I'm finally ready to put the WOW factor into Ixtlan, and of course that means merging in AFX. I released a resource for TGE/A some years back called afxFPS that enabled the use of first-person functionality and weapons in legacy AFX. I'd been planning to update this resource for T3D but had been busy on my own projects. I needed to put the AFX funtionality into TolTech:Ixtlan [my upcoming tech demo] so in the process, went ahead and built a new template that can be setup into the AFX/MIT codebase.

afxModern is essentially a merge of the 'Mars' demo with the AFX code/scripts. It uses the stock T3D gametype/spawning/vehicle/weapon functionality and adds in the afxSpellBank. I'll be replacing the Demo-specific spells with new replacements as well as a couple examples of AFX-enhanced weapons. As the title suggests, 'Kork' is not included, having been replaced by the other TGEA players shapes. I have left UAISK functionality intact, but will likely include Acaster's bots + BuckMaster's Recast/Detour to replace the NPCWrangler. It comes with afxCamera working but the T3D camera is merely commented out, making a swap back to it none too painful.

Progress

Essentially, the merge is finished - I have one strange issue where the weapons won't toggle in first-person yet do in third perseon [?] but aside from that it's all working like the original demo. I need to re-work some of the GUIs and it's ready for Prime-Time. I have to figure out how to release it, either as a PDF how-to or a downloadable from HNGamers or somewhere similar, depending on IP constraints. Ideally it could be an additional download for AFX owners the way the Demo is now, we'll see.

BTW speaking of GUIs, this is not my strong suit, if there's any 2D artist out there that would like to contribute by coming up with new chrome for the spellbank, etc., please let me know. I'll post a progress report when it's ready for download...

I had done some work with AFX and FPS a while back. My specific application was a re-write of MagicMissile as a fully aimed projectile system without target. This was done in tmmokit, so it would have been of little use for stock Torque users.

I'm no artist, so I'm of no help there. I look forward to seeing a demo of what you've come up with.
