Announcing the New Torque 3D Steering Committee!

From the very beginning our plan has always been to transition to where the community makes up the majority of the Torque 3D Steering Committee. We sent out a call looking for members of the community to step up and take part. We received a number of great submissions and of those, we’ve chosen two, longtime members to make up the first community-based Committee. Please welcome the new Torque 3D Steering Committee:

Michael has been an active member of the community in the forums, as well as helping out with TorqueScript in previous releases of Torque 3D. He most recently has been working with the Community Edition and determining what may be moved back into the MIT release.

Ron has recently returned to the community after his hiatus from being in the Army. He is best known for his art packs and tutorials that help people with Torque 3D’s art pipeline and built-in tools.

Previous members Eric and David MB are handing things off to the newly formed Committee. Scott has graciously agreed to remain on as the Committee’s secretary.

For this first community version of the Steering Committee we decided to start small. We will remain at this size for about six months and see how everything works out. Over time our community will grow and we will grow the Committee with it. If any of you are interested in joining the Steering Committee please send me an email and I will add you to the list along with those that have already put in their names.

Steering Committee Charter

Along with announcing the new Committee, we’ve also ratified version 1.0 of the Steering Committee’s Charter. The Charter has been posted on the GitHub wiki here.

This Charter outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Steering Committee, and is our touchstone when determining the future direction of Torque 3D. I recommend that everyone at least skim through it to have an idea of our goals.

@Dave,
These people, including yourself, are top notch members/developers of GG. I really like the skill mix they bring. Art and coding experience.

Congrats (mwahaha) to both Michael and Ron for getting the chance to never sleep again! You fools... what were you thinking?!

Seriously though, I couldn't think of anyone better suited to the task, and I'm confident you'll both do your best to, ah, steer.... things.

I'm going to stand over there now.

Hi everybody,

I haven't posted for a loooong while but this initiative just got me back.

I think this idea is great. There are lots of resources that might improve the engine in a big way but were never approved officially.

I still believe T3D is one of the best engines out there, however (as Roland Deschain would say) "the world has moved on", new platforms have arrived and old static models are being broken. A community driven T3D with a deep plan can turn this into something unique that can encompass multiple platforms and integrated with modern languages.

Luck!
