Insert Coin(s)

On October 20th GarageGames employees will be participating in a 24 hour gaming marathon to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals through the Extra Life organization.

Here at GarageGames we know we have 'dream jobs' and we don't take that for granted. Whenever someone is having a bad day or when a stressful deadline is fast approaching we generally do a good job taking a step back and realizing that working on video game software is a pretty good way to make a living. We are always looking for ways to give back to both the local Las Vegas community and the global gaming community when we can.

Locally here in Vegas we are partnering with the video game themed nightclub Insert Coin(s) from 4PM to Midnight or later. Insert Coin(s) is located downtown at 512 Fremont Street at local Vegas gamers can come join us for games, drinks, and raffle prizes. Anyone donating $15 at the door will get a commemorative t-shirt(while supplies last).

As part of the global GarageGames community there are a number of ways you join in and help:

Donate!

Go to the GarageGames team fundraising page at www.extra-life.org/team/garagegames and select one of the participating employees and donate. Any amount is appreciated.

Help Fundraise!

Go to the same fundraising page at www.extra-life.org/team/garagegames but instead of selecting an employee and donating select 'JOIN THIS TEAM!' and create your own fundraising page you can use to have friends, family and co-workers donate to support you. You can select any hospital you want from the drop down list. If you don't have a local hospital please select St. Rose Dominican which is located here in Henderson, Nevada.

Play Games!

Join us on Saturday October 20th for 24 hours of gaming. You can go to www.GarageGames.com/ExtraLife where we will have specific multi-player games and times (and platforms) listed. Madden 13 on Xbox, Civilization 5 on Steam, Borderlands 2, Diablo, Minecraft - we will have plenty of options throughout the day.

To recognize those GarageGames community members who help us out we will be giving away the following prizes to the three members who help raise the most money:

  • 1st Place: GarageGames' entire first party product pack. That's right the 2D engines, the art packs and tools. You get all GarageGames' first party products on our site.
  • 2nd Place: GarageGames' entire library of first party art packs. Aliens, Weapons, Zombies, Death Animations, Cheetah and more. If it's GarageGames art - you get it.
  • 3rd Place: Any GarageGames' first party product of your choice. One of the 2D engines, one of our art packs - you name it and its yours.

Update: New Prize just added! Jules of Something2Play has donated a copy of 2D GUI HUD Creator to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners!

Update 2: Whoah! The prize pool just keeps getting sweeter!

Will I have a chance in winning if I only play but not pay because I can't atm?

Sure. Add yourself to our team and get friends and family to sponsor you!

EDIT: The prizes are based upon how much you get in donations, not how much you donate (unless you donate to yourself, I guess).

Cool. Just signed up. So I only need people to donate via that link right?

Can I play anything I want? I'd like to play Carrier Command then or Space, Pirates and Zombies or some other fun games :D.

Good to know. I am gonna give away some games during my stream that I have left over from Steam, so I hope I can attract some people that actually donate.

But then I am not TotalBiscuit and I don't have many followers on Twitter, Youtube or Facebook etc.
Well gonna see how it works out. Gonna add some threads on the Steam forums, Steamgifts and other sites.

Maybe I play also XCOM : Enemy Unknown.

Plus, you don't even HAVE to play video games! This event covers board games, card games, and even D&D!

I'm putting myself at the mercy of the community for mine.

For each $10 you donate (up until I reach my goal), you get to dictate what I play for 1 hour. Want to make me play Barbie Horse Adventures for an hour, a $10 donation before my goal is met will make that happen. If I'm unable to acquire the game you request then you can substitute for something from my library or the other games that will be on hand during the event.

For each $10 donated after my goal, you can dictate how I play a game. Want me to spend an hour playing Rock Band blindfolded? A $10 donation after my goal has been met will seal that deal.

Eric/David,

What a great cause. If you want, go ahead and add my products to your awards list. It's the least I can do and at least I can feel like I helped out. Let me know if you need any additional info from me.

Awesome, thanks Jules. That's good to know about the form, I'll make sure to pass that along to others. Let me know if you've got a game in mind already for your hour. I'll add a comprehensive list of my personal library to my donation page later tonight.

Does Magic: The Gathering make a good spectator event? I happen to know of a few guys at the office who would broadcast a game or two throughout the day...

@Scott - yeah a list would be good. Are you going to take screenshots or videos of the games?

10/03/2012 (3:50 pm)
Well we're planning on streaming video of the event. If logistics work out that I can keep a stream for just me I'll do that. At the very least I'll make sure there is video and/or pics of me playing each donor's game. The games available can range from current consoles, some older consoles, PC, even some arcade cabinets.

@Zach - Magic is a huge spectator sport and I am up for playing a few rounds during the event. But it will only be Ray and myself probably.

I do also plan on bringing my A Game of Thrones card game set to see if anyone wants to learn and play. Its best to play with 4 players.

My game of choice is going to be Assassins Creed Revelations on PS3. So if anybody is up for some multi-player on that otherwise its going to be start to finish single player!

On a side note, I plan on dressing up in my Halloween costume for this just to add to the fun :)
