IPS Lite release video, oh the danish accent.

by Lukas Joergensen · 07/30/2012 (1:23 pm) · 5 comments

Oh my ears bleed

- When I hear my accent and stuttering on the IPS Lite release video. But it is an acceptable video. It is my first commented video, and there is much I should learn and improve on in this video. But hell we have to start somewhere, so I decided to just go with my third attempt.
Things I have learned about commenting videos: A manuscript is a VERY good idea, the stuttering and ehm's comes from when I have to figure out what to say and how I make myself clear.
But the result was fine actually.
In the video below you can see a shallow explanation of the IPS Lite:

Btw I know that sphere's is not pronounced like that I just forgot it in the moment! :)

Whats this 'Lite' all about?

Well up untill now the IPS has been a free resource. But I have so many more ideas on how I could improve the particle system!
Therefore I decided to split my development of the IPS.
The upcoming update is the last feature update that I will make for the IPS Lite. The IPS Lite will stay free forever and I will support it in regards to bugs etc. But I wont develop any more features for it.
Instead I will create the IPS Pro (Name not settled yet) which will be way more feature packed, price is not settled yet as I keep coming up with new ideas and emitters which may add or take away alittle from the price. I will come with some price estimates in some later updates when I am ready to release more info about the IPS Pro.

A library of products that help to improve your games in T3D

So, i posted a thread about this site but thought I would mention it here aswell. Yesterday I started a side project. Products that are not in the GarageGames store, or free resources etc can be very hard to dig up and the publishers quickly lose income on their products because people simply don't discover them. Take for example the Sahara addon, it is a great addon which adds incredible visual improvements to T3D! But you don't see it listed anywhere, if you didn't knew about because you were around when Bitgap released it, you wouldn't discover it!
My site try to solve these problems by collecting all these products under one roof and make it easy to navigate through them.

The site is not officially launched yet but it is open to public. So far I have spent 1 day of work on it but I am quite satisfied with the results. I will add more features to it later on but right now I would love it if you would submit some of the products that is missing. It is not an automated pipeline yet so you will have to wait for me to manually add it before you can find your submitted product on the site.

I'm also looking forward to the non-lite version. Looks groovy!

By the way Lukas, nobody but you cares what you sound like. You are easily understood and that's what we want. The script idea is a good one, though. I'd suggest doing it normally like in this video, but then transcribe what you say and re-record it again later, where you just read into a mic. That way we don't hear all the clicking either. Also worth mentioning is I absolutely love vids with commentary (and loath the ones with some really bad music over it instead).

Dan

Edit: FuzzyVoid sounds good. I assume you're talking about fuzzy logic? I like it a lot. And don't be surprised if it is already taken. I was thinking of psynaptix for crying out loud. Not only is that taken, but so is every permutation of it in any language I cared to search in.

@Dan transcribing it is actually not a bad idea! That way you get the clean 'what just goes into my head at the time' without the pauses. I will note that down for future videos!

I love videos aswell, which is why i keep making them!

@S2P & Dan
Thanks for your anticipation! I will make sure to make the IPS Pro worth the wait!

Hey Lukas,

Did I spy a Ribbon Node in that video? Looks like you took my suggestion about ribbon particles then ;)
I take it that'd be a feature in IPS Pro, yes?

Any sort of ballpark as to when Pro might show up for purchase?

Also, love the idea of the T3D Product Library. One suggestion I would make, is default to the browse page, and then just have a link or button at the bottom to go to the page to add your own. I know at this stage it's more about getting a bunch in there for usage, but I don't think it'd be too much of an obfuscation even now.
One suggestion may be to have an option to filter by the 'publisher' too, since several things were released by the same group, or people searching may be more familiar with WHO submitted certain things.
Just some feedback on it, I like where it's going. :D

@Jeff Yes I did take your suggestion about ribbon particles! ;) I don't dare take a shot at when the pro version is ready, as soon as I have an estimation I will inform you!
But don't worry I will keep you teased in the main time by talking about my progress and the various features I have added!

As for the Product Library, linking to the browse page by default does make sense, since thats why people goes to the site anw.. Theres no reason to take a detour there..
About the publisher thing, I believe that when I add the search bar functionality aswell it would be the obvious way to filter by publisher ;)
